(23/06-29/06)<div style="text-align: justify;">
This week followed many finales so we only had two shows. Luckily for us, they are probably the best of their respective seasons. There will be <span style="color: red;">spoilers</span>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>2. <i>Halt and Catch Fire</i>: "Close to the Metal" (Seasons 1 Episode 4)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://cdn3.vox-cdn.com/assets/4654999/CU_HACF2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://cdn3.vox-cdn.com/assets/4654999/CU_HACF2.jpg" height="177" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If last episode only hinted that Donna is just the best, this episode here confirms it and how. Cameron has apparently put her back-up discs close to her music and after a vacuum cleaner is plugged in, her whole BIOS coding is lost. The only person who knows how to do something other than yell pointlessly at Cameron is Donna, who risks her job but ends up saving the day and impressing a reporter who was considering writing about Cardiff. But, she's too smart to stop at that and putting two and two together (using her knowledge as a housewife too) she realises that it was Joe who had orchestrated everything to look good for the reporter. This was the most exhilarating episode of the first six, fast-paced but easy to follow, putting things at stake and showing fully developed characters. If the show keeps this up, it is going to be a hell of a ride.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Kerry Bishé with whom I am deeply in love already.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>1. <i>Penny Dreadful</i>: "Possession" (Season 1 Episode 7)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://cultfix.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/penny-dreadful-107.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://cultfix.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/penny-dreadful-107.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It would have been very easy for Halt and Catch Fire to be number one this week. But, Penny Dreadful upped its ante and gave us the best episode of its first season. A bottle episode, no less. After last week's sexytimes with Dorian, a demon has possessed Vanessa and the crew has to exorcise her to save her life. There. That's the plot. It could not be simpler and yet it works like a charm due, in no small part, to Green's wonderful performance. The dialogues are also great, pointing out at the existing relaationships between characters and how they are affected once the demon intervenes. It's also worth noting the restrain in the make-up and special effects. Even though Vanessa's being possessed is easily inferred visually, by not changing her physical aspect beyond recognition (à la Linda Blair in <i>The Exorcist</i>). It might take away a little of the fear it could cause by not recognising her (seriously, nothing is scarier than Linda Blair possessed in <i>The Exorcist</i>) but it makes up for it in allowing us to not forget the human behind the demon, how Vanessa's well-being is everyone's priority. In conclusion, a fucking great hour of television.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Eva Green with whom I have been in love for quite some time.</div>

This is tremendously late but for one it was not <i>Orphan Black</i>'s fault but <i>Halt and Catch Fire</i>'s. As always, there are <span style="color: red;">spoilers</span>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>6. <i>Orphan Black</i>: "By Means Which Have Never Yet Been Tried" (Season 2 Episode 10)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://m1.paperblog.com/i/267/2675740/orphan-black-s02e10-by-means-which-have-never-L-iyYXu9.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://m1.paperblog.com/i/267/2675740/orphan-black-s02e10-by-means-which-have-never-L-iyYXu9.jpeg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, it is official. The second season of <i>Orphan Black</i> has been quite disastrous. The finale was heavily flawed but had a perfect moment. I'm talking about the dancing, of course. If <i>Grey's Anatomy</i> has taught has anything (it has taught us a lot, actually) is that a finale is always better when the characters dance it out. For a split second I thought that this was going to be the end of the episode and that I was going to be happy. But no, oh no. Following a pattern that no tv show should follow and that I always associate to <i>True Blood</i>, the finale had two parts clearly divided. In the first, the season is somehow tied up and in the second, the following season is set up. I don't like this pattern because it rushes closure and in rushing it, almost cancels it. We'll have time to see what is going to happen next year, don't worry. That being said, I understand the need for a cliffhanger (rewatching <i>Friends</i>, I discovered that it had the most brutal season cliffhangers ever). But a cliffhanger is a five-minute thing, not a half episode deal. Here, we had a lot of yabba-yabba with Sarah and Rachel. Cal reappears and all is right in the world. Cosima seems to die but no luck because Kira has the Book of the Magic Answers and finally we get to the cliffhanger which is actually two-fold. First, project Leda is going on with a little girl who is also a clone, sadly, not played by Maslany, (she should have painted on freckles, borrow Mrs. S. braids and stand on her knees). This I'm ok with because it involves Michelle Forbes and she is very cool. But then, we have the second cliffhanger of the night when we discover that on top of Project Leda, there was a Project Castor (someone is really smug about their mythology course on freshman year) so we have a pack of male clones. Porny-face clones. Sad trumpets and see you next year.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Tatiana Maslany dancing with herself.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div>
<b>5. <i>Louie</i>: "Pamela Part 2" (Season 4 Episode 13)</b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://wac.450f.edgecastcdn.net/80450F/screencrush.com/files/2014/06/lo3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://wac.450f.edgecastcdn.net/80450F/screencrush.com/files/2014/06/lo3.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I don't like Pamela. She is always unnecessarily mean towards Louie and she acts like a five-year-old most of the time. In fact, this episode begins terribly thanks to her influence. I feel that <i>Louie </i>has always been a show that has understood the importance of art even if it had to mock its protagonist for not getting it (it comes to mind one of my favorite moments in the show when Jane is playing the violin, Louie tells her to stop and she replies "But it's beautiful!"). But the beginning of this episode is basically saying: "contemporary art is so stoopid, LOL". And it's because Pamela is a cynic. And her cynicism poisons the show. I think there is a ray of light when at the end of the show (as pictured) they seem to feel something. And also, when Pamela finally embraces being with Louie after the very romantic picnic thing. But I hope that, if this is going to go over to the next season, Pamela's jadedness is smoothed out considerably. This is not a cynic show and it does not suit it.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
MVP: Louie, for putting up with the devil incarnate.<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>4. <i>Penny Dreadful</i>: "What Death Can Join Together" (Season 1 Episode 6)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.awardsdaily.com/tv/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Penny-DreadfulS01E06.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.awardsdaily.com/tv/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Penny-DreadfulS01E06.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
First, a diclaimer: I paid very little attention to this episode because we watched it right after the <i>Game of Thrones</i> finale and I was still shaking. And, honestly, I cannot remember it all that well. Vanessa and Dorian have super savage sex but she leaves halfway through. Caliban kills Van Helsing because he really wants a lady Frankenstein. And Sir Malcolm and Mr. Chandler do something but I have no clue what could it be. Honestly, I should rewatch this.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Eva Green is the best in general.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b>
<b>3. <i>Louie</i>: "Pamela Part 3" (Season 4 Episode 14)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://pixel.nymag.com/imgs/daily/vulture/2014/06/17/17-louie-ep14.o.jpg/a_560x375.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://pixel.nymag.com/imgs/daily/vulture/2014/06/17/17-louie-ep14.o.jpg/a_560x375.jpg" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Pamela, my favorite character Pamela (I hate her, actually), decides in the beginning of this episode that it would be hilarious or something to get rid of all the furniture in Louie's home and force him to buy it all again. Seriously, if this kind of people exist, I never want to meet them. Then, she is put into an awkward situation when asked to drop the kids at her mother's and is just her annoying self. And then, while watching Louie, someone she supposedly cares about, perform she does not even smile while he's on stage. I hate her very much but this episode was funny thanks to her incapability to function as a sentient human being and the final notes in the bathtub were really sweet. But, God, don't bring her back next year.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Again, Louie, for putting up with her.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>2. <i>Halt and Catch Fire</i>: "High Plains Hardware" (Season 1 Episode 3)</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.graffitiwithpunctuation.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/halt-and-catch-fire-episode-103-pre-980x551.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.graffitiwithpunctuation.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/halt-and-catch-fire-episode-103-pre-980x551.jpg" height="179" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm still not up to date with this show but having seen the first half of the season, I can say that it is quite a good one. It still suffers from some things like bad lighting (maybe it's intentional since the 80s must have been terrible to look at?) and a protagonist that is the least compelling character but it's getting there. And the best move this episode does is bringing Donna up front. She'll have more to do in the next episode but it's here where the writers realise they can play with our sexist expectations and to have the smartest character be the one that, so far, has been the wife and mother. It's her idea to layer the motherboard and it's thanks to her influence that Gordon can grow a pair and fire Mr. Moustache. Meanwhile, Lee Pace kisses a man. Because not to have a bisexual leading man is so first half of 2014, right <i>Penny Dreadful</i>? Most likely than not, Joe only seduces a man to piss off said man's wife. But we'll take what we can. Oh, and Cameron is having trouble and trying to figure out code writing with lipstick on a hotel mirror while a pack of punks dance around in their underwear. The 80s, amirite?<br />
<br />
MVP: Kerry Bishé starts showing in this episode that she plays the most interesting character on the show.<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>1. <i>Game of Thrones</i>: "The Children" (Season 4 Episode 10)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://cdn3-www.craveonline.com/assets/uploads/2014/06/Game-of-Thrones-410-Dragons-will-be-Dragons.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://cdn3-www.craveonline.com/assets/uploads/2014/06/Game-of-Thrones-410-Dragons-will-be-Dragons.jpg" height="179" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So, <i>Orphan Black</i>... This is how you make a season finale, actually. I still cannot think about this episode and not tremble a little but here we go. First, up north, LoveActuallyandBrightStarBoy dies to help Bran get to the magical tree. Down South (or in the East, well, somewhere), the Hound dies too. At Brienne's hands no less. And Arya refuses to go with her (not knowing that she'd probably reunite with Sansa) and gets on a ship to the land of money (I'm awesome remembering names!). Daenerys has to lock up her dragons (the two she has managed to get a hold on) after a wonderfully set up scene where we find out that they are not into eating sheep anymore. And, in King's Landing, Jaime and Varys release Tyrion who ends up killing both Shae and Tywin. I love how these scenes are not played in a "Yay, revenge is great!" tone but in a very sad and almost solemn way showing that Tyrion is hurting while doing the only thing he can do. It helps that Dinklage is amazing. I cannot believe that we have to wait another year for more Westeros. It seems it has been a week since this season started! Oh, and this episode was also great for avoiding the whole Lady Stoneheart bullshit.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Peter Dinklage as Tyrion. And still he should choose the trial for Emmy consideration.</div>

Even though I haven't watched a lot of movies this week, it has been an embarrassment of riches. First, because we finally were able to see <i>Under the Skin</i>, the new and jaw-droppingly good film by Jonathan Glazer. The only way this was not going to be the best movie of the week was to put it in competition with old favorites. Which brings us to the second reason for this amazing week: an impromptu Almodóvar mini-marathon. Pedro is my favorite director ever (only Lynch could have a claim to the throne) so, of course, the winner would be one of his films. That film is <b><i>All About My Mother</i> (1999, <i>Todo sobre mi madre</i>)</b>, and this time was my fifth watching it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://img.irtve.es/resources/jpg/6/0/1234813239406.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://img.irtve.es/resources/jpg/6/0/1234813239406.jpg" height="256" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The main plot is quite simple: Manuela's son dies and she moves from Madrid to Barcelona to deliver the news to his long-lost father. But, this being an Almodóvar film, things are a lot more complicated than that. The lives of several women come together in this beautiful script which, dealing with death and loss is one of Almodóvar's most cheerful and positive. The director wears his influences on his sleeve and, in fact, they are made explicit during the movie. <i>All About Eve</i>, <i>A Streetcar Named Desire</i> and the work of Lorca are all present in the film both as meta-texts and as constant references in the lives of Manuela and the rest of the women.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
These women are brought to life by a supporting cast of wonderful actresses. Antonia San Juan plays Agrado, a character so interesting that she could have her own movie and the best source for the amazing one-liners that abound in the script. There's also Penélope Cruz in her first substantial collaboration for Almodóvar playing Sister Rosa with a wonderful innocence that I don't think has ever reappeared in her career. One of the many muses of the director is also present in Marisa Paredes playing the larger-than-life Huma Rojo. Her girlfriend is played by Candela Peña, dangerous and angry but with a good heart and a healthy interest in both breasts and penises.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
But the movie is Cecilia Roth. Hers is a performance for the ages in which she gives Manuela everything. In my opinion, one of the best parts of the performance is how she plays with the degree of restraint that Manuela shows. When she cries and laughs she really cries and laughs but she also shows that Manuela is a very intelligent woman who likes to take care of people.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In the film, there are also men but none as striking as Toni Cantó. He is a terrible actor who does a terrible job in this film and yet, I don't think that other performance would fit the movie better. This is how good the film is, its flaws are its strenghts too.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Other films I watched this week:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Under the Skin (Jonathan Glazer, 2014)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Volver (Pedro Almodóvar, 2006) [Rewatch]</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Hable con ella (Pedro Almodóvar, 2002) [Rewatch]</div>
King Kong (Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack, 1933)<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Gegen die Wand (Fatih Akin, 2004)</div>

I am extremely late this week but that's what happens when you put off watching <i>Orphan Black</i> as much as humanly possible. Without further ado, this is the ranking of the Tv shows I watched a few weeks ago. Careful, there will be <span style="color: red;">spoilers</span>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>6. <i>Orphan Black</i>: "Things Which Have Never Yet Been Done" (Season 2 Episode 9)</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://cdn1.lockerdome.com/uploads/ea82ca34ae6f4cc034963c9bcb2953453af7fcb8eee8ca9378bcf8ff68b36571_large" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://cdn1.lockerdome.com/uploads/ea82ca34ae6f4cc034963c9bcb2953453af7fcb8eee8ca9378bcf8ff68b36571_large" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I watched this episode and the last one back to back. I think that if I had watched this on its own I would have liked it even less because it is only set-up for the finale. Cosima is seriously dying, you guys, so Sarah and Siobhan make the very logical decision of asking an eight-year-old if she'd like to undergo surgery. She says yes because Kira is good, did you get that? Meanwhile Helena, is impregnated, learns the truth about her religious sestra's impregnation, puts a huge needle filled with horse semen up the religious leader's ass, burns the farm down and runs away after freeing her religious sestra and her porny-faced lover. A busy couple of hours she has. Alison and Donnie have to dispose of Leekie's body but Vic and the hilariously-named Angela DeAngelis (as <a href="http://deivithcoastfilmawards.blogspot.com.es/" target="_blank">David </a>put it, where is Professor Professorson?). And finally, for some reason, someone decided it would be a good idea to put the bad-ass Maria Doyle Kennedy in two braids. Two fucking braids that made her look like <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5021lpDCvTfU6Lw-Ba7qaci1FdLwCJoUxIJsQPW4SaxZT2uakGchsk_FP7-J3qlbXx_OK-1Smq3Emzu0e6oRFXp7I12zHDtLMEEuASs8QvPTsd_HnY5GYrkVWYbi6Gpg4LH6Dkt3vMxu7/s1600/LA+TONTA+DEL+BOTE.jpg" target="_blank">Lina Morgan</a>. But don't despair, in the finale there will be Huisman and there will be dancing.<br />
<br />
MVP: Tatiana Maslany as Helena keeps being pretty awesome.<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>5. <i>Louie</i>: "In the Woods Part 1" (Season 4 Episode 11)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJR6n_yhR7Tb7K9krreApFEVO2kMGucZ7Eki_OMgUrfA9U4rSXcdB_bRANTtg7T79socWjna5fJ9ZTJPnueo-ITUaDs_RK6KJHK66irZZUXQBb6v8OJp7pJ0GdJZlrWlcv6lHlD3aWOsu3/s1600/louie-fire-fart.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJR6n_yhR7Tb7K9krreApFEVO2kMGucZ7Eki_OMgUrfA9U4rSXcdB_bRANTtg7T79socWjna5fJ9ZTJPnueo-ITUaDs_RK6KJHK66irZZUXQBb6v8OJp7pJ0GdJZlrWlcv6lHlD3aWOsu3/s1600/louie-fire-fart.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Well, it happened. An episode of <i>Louie</i> that I did not like. I understand and appreciate the experimental approach to this season but I think these two episodes, and especially the first one, did not work very much. For once, the longer running time was duly noted and they did not feel as tight as other episodes. Also, the absence of Louie himself for so long was a bummer. This has nothing to do with the episodes themselves but with the beginning of the first part, I anticipated a couple of episodes dealing more directly with the relationship between Louie and Lily. And it's not like I hated them, the dynamics between young Louie and his two male influences in the episodes (teacher and dealer) are very interesting. But still...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Jeremy Renner as the shady dealer (aren't they all?). He is a really good actor and he should do more of this interesting stuff and less being brainwashed in Marvel.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>4. <i>Halt and Catch Fire</i>: "FUD" (Season 1 Episode 2)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://tvafterdarkonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Halt-and-Catch-Fire-EP-103-6-775x516.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://tvafterdarkonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Halt-and-Catch-Fire-EP-103-6-775x516.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I liked this episode just fine but I was not very invested in it. "Something legal" happened that required the three leads to work on the "something computer" separately and they scream and they fight and they finally have a breakthrough when they decide to build a laptop. This sounds like I did not enjoy the episode but I actually did, although I guess it was more an enjoyment of the moment with all the actors and the hope that I still could understand the plot than an enjoyment for a later recap.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Lee Pace as Joe. He really sold the weird scene where he opens his shirt and shows his scars.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>3. <i>Louie</i>: "In the Woods Part 2" (Season 4 Episode 12)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://24.media.tumblr.com/23dfc502cbbaecceccca6df5536e5c0a/tumblr_n73h9fBlVA1qbxi45o1_500.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://24.media.tumblr.com/23dfc502cbbaecceccca6df5536e5c0a/tumblr_n73h9fBlVA1qbxi45o1_500.gif" height="183" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I should probably give this couple of episodes another chance because by the end of the second part I had warmed to it much more. I guess the whole thing makes more sense after you see it all, as it should be. I really liked how they played the escalation of the scales problem (am I funny yet?) and how the story was not sugarcoated at all. Also, the resolution with Louie learning to communicate a bit better with his daughter was a bit obvious but worked perfectly. And there was F. Murray Abraham, which never hurts.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: This one goes to Skipp Sudduth as Mr. Hoffman in the role that (given the surname) was probably intended for Phillip Seymour. He is really good in the part and had a very easy, believable chemistry with young Louie.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>2. <i>Game of Thrones</i>: "The Watchers on the Wall" (Season 4 Episode 9)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://highlighthollywood.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/got-jonsnowleaves.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://highlighthollywood.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/got-jonsnowleaves.jpg" height="177" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was fully prepared to hate this episode. A whole hour up at the Wall? Why don't you kill me now? And then, something happened. Something like Neil Marshall is an amazing director. And the episode was so cool. I absolutely loath most of the characters that appeared in it (Sam, die, please). The main exceptions being Jon "puppy eyes" Snow and his bearded friend who died (sad face) on the fight with the giant. Yes, this episode had giants and mammooths and I liked it! But what can I do? Marshall knows how to direct action. He took a space so uninteresting as the wall (it's a wall. It separates two parts of the world. That's it) and divided it in several smaller spaces where the battle was happening and it was gorgeous, very easy to follow and breathtaking. So, a very nice surprise of an episode, indeed.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: The kid who kills the fake Emma Stone, obviously.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>1. <i>Penny Dreadful</i>: "Closer Than Sisters" (Season 1 Episode 5)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://seriable.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/closer1-700x400.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://seriable.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/closer1-700x400.jpg" height="182" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I am enjoying Penny Dreadful a whole lot more than I had anticipated. I love how it's like no other Tv show; it follows the beat of its own drum. It wants to introduce half the main characters in the second episode? It does so. It wants to keep secrets for twice as long as any other show would do? It does so? And this week, it wanted to spend its forty minutes providing backstory for the most interesting character, and so it did. And in an epistolar episode, no less. And it was glorious. Thanks, in no small part, to the amazingness that is Eva Green. She plays the young Vanessa with such innocence and joy that it is a pleasure to watch her and it is a blow for us too when she discovers that her mother and Malcolm were having an affair. She becomes jaded and her powers start growing also thanks to the devil (in Malcolm's guise) who visits her at the asylum where she is. It might sound like a pointless exercise in filling out the voids but it was a truly great episode that captured perfectly the tone of the show.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Eva Green, again, quite obviously.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

Between a weekend trip and a serious case of <i>Friends </i>addiction, this has been a very light week and a half. Still, we managed to watch a few Best Actress Nominees and it is one of these films the one that has the honor of being film of the week. <b><i>Now, Voyager</i> (Irving Rapper, 1942)</b> is a wonderful Bette Davis melodrama.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxGQlyIhi1toVN5tpqRMRL4syNat-gSq9fHHmJJiWDnE7upoTrtqPOP1w4PjwABA-IQWlazr27qeilzOJfp58S8xtxu9LeVWyzp61h4ZSQcVEwH8GNVbm99cderQ8bisSt41xoAWYg8lY/s1600/nowvoyager.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxGQlyIhi1toVN5tpqRMRL4syNat-gSq9fHHmJJiWDnE7upoTrtqPOP1w4PjwABA-IQWlazr27qeilzOJfp58S8xtxu9LeVWyzp61h4ZSQcVEwH8GNVbm99cderQ8bisSt41xoAWYg8lY/s1600/nowvoyager.jpg" height="250" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Davis plays Charlotte Vale, the black sheep in a very important family. She is meek and ugly and is therefore single and without prospects of marriage. Thanks to her sister-in-law she leaves her mother to go to a resting house and there she blooms. She begins to be social, to dress amazingly and to be generally not ugly. I find Bette Davis to be a beautiful woman but the make up and wardrobe people might not have been that sure because the really piled on her frumping her up. It's one of those makeovers where it is impossible not to improve. Really, when the movie begins, she looks like this:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.burningsettlerscabin.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Bette-Davis-450x337.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.burningsettlerscabin.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Bette-Davis-450x337.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I guess the transformation is all the more striking because of Davis' acting. She, the actress that had been Leslie Crosbie, the actress who would be Margo Channing, is completely believable as a woman suffocating under her mother and once Charlotte is out of her shell, she plays her with a warmth and empathy that never quite lets you forget how she began the story. What I really like about the script is how it manages to handle both the triumphs and the disappointments. I would say the film has an optimistic outlook but still, by the time Davis delivers the last line in the film ("We have the stars, let's don't ask for the moon") I was crying my eyes out.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In the technical aspects, it is a very elegant film in which the camera is as in love with Charlotte as we are. The costumes are amazing and the music is so beautiful. The score was nominated but not the costumes (I'm sure that this is only because the award did not exist yet) and it managed a Supporting Actress nod for Gladys Cooper (playing Charlotte's tyranical mother) apart from Davis' nomination.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Other films I wacthed this week:</b></div>

This week was best-actress-nominee heavy and I loved Mike Nichols' Working Girl a lot (I had not enjoyed my first viewing of the film) but the winner is an animated movie, that is, nevertheless, filled with actresses, even if only in voice. This film is <b><i>Sleeping Beauty</i> (Clyde Geromini, 1959)</b>. I actually was able to watch this film thanks to the dreadful <i>Maleficent </i>because the Dvd had been discontinued forever and they re-edited it to accompany the Jolie vehicle. And thank goodness since this is an amazing movie.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/6523/sleepingbeauty10a.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/6523/sleepingbeauty10a.png" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
To start off, the animation is breathtaking. There is this tendency to assume that all Disney animation looks the same and while they always have common ground I think this is not the case. In this movie, for instance, medieval art heavily influences the drawings and it could not be more beautiful. In my opinion, the reasoning behind this mental homogeneity is two-fold. First, some people remember the merchandise (where the princesses are very washed down) more than the films themselves. Second, Disney animation is showing signs of fatigue and of defeat. I don't care how many million dollars it has made or how catchy "Let it Go" can be, <i>Frozen </i>(Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, 2013) is a very badly animated film. Granted, I am not a fan of Disney's 3d movies but, for example, <i>Wreck-it Ralph</i> (Rich Moore, 2012) showed a different style than <i>Tangled </i>(Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, 2010) but <i>Frozen </i>is just the same princess with a different color palette. What's worse is that with this success, I don't think they are going to stretch much for the future.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Anyway, and back to the good movie and forgetting the ones that infuriate me, Sleeping Beauty is a classic story of good versus evil without any of the post-modern ethical mumbo-jumbo that is our bread in animated movies today. Aurora and the fairies are good, Maleficent is bad. Because they are, because they choose to be. Not because someone took their fucking wings. The movie is a classic fairytale that works like clockwork precisely for its timelessness. And, for such a short film, it has everything. The dance around the woods is one of the most romantic moments in the Disney canon, the fairies getting the dress and the cake ready in one of the funniest moments in the Disney canon and Maleficent turning into a dragon is one of the most terrifying moments in the Disney canon. Whether in pink or blue, this movie is a masterpiece.</div>

Here is the ranking of the shows I saw last week. Because of its special nature, <i>Orange is the New Black </i>will have its own post. Careful, <span style="color: red;">spoilers </span>are real.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>6. <i>Orphan Black</i>: "Variable and Full of Perturbation" (Season 2 Episode 8)</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://img2.tvtome.com/i/u/3ebd8b8996514d4ecd3806ae8341820f.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://img2.tvtome.com/i/u/3ebd8b8996514d4ecd3806ae8341820f.png" height="178" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Aaaaaaaand, after the episode I enjoyed most, here comes the one I enjoyed the least. I think the trans clone can be a good idea, but maybe it should have waited until season 3. I don't think we need any new clones now, we need the plot to advance a little, not more mysteries. Otherwise this will end up being Lost. All questions, stupid answers. Cosima's storyline was completely bonkers. "I'm dying by the end of the episode so let's get high on helium with the stupid doctor who insists on talking French to people when she's spoken to in English!" Alison and Donnie were a downer. I don't want them to be back together and stronger than ever. Donnie is the worst. He is a puppet who does not deserve his wife. Alternate romantic interest for Alison, stat. And the Tony thing was, well, cluttered and unnecessary.<br />
<br />
MVP: Jordan Gavaris as Felix. I really feel for this character because he should have gotten from the clone mess away a million years ago but he is always caring for everyone and being level-headed and very cool.<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>5. <i>Halt and Catch Fire</i>: "I/O (Pilot)" (Season 1 Episode 1)</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.edna.cz/runtime/cache/images/full/series/halt-and-catch-fire/Halt-and-Catch-Fire-First-Look-Promotional-Photos-1-595-slogo-7728aed3d68b82e6fffd7f6bdfcd0324.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.edna.cz/runtime/cache/images/full/series/halt-and-catch-fire/Halt-and-Catch-Fire-First-Look-Promotional-Photos-1-595-slogo-7728aed3d68b82e6fffd7f6bdfcd0324.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I was a little scared after reading about the first reactions to the show but I really liked the pilot. I'm not very invested in the computer world but the theme is broad enough to be interesting. And really with those actors you could not go wrong. Adorable Lee Pace playing someone not too adorable, Mackenzie Davis (MVP in <i>That Awkward Moment</i> next to Miles Teller) is our small-screen Lisbeth Salander and she is very good at it, Scoot McNairy is already a great character actor and I'm looking forward to seeing him develop a character over time and Kerry Bishé is finally getting some worthwhile work after her turn in <i>Argo</i>. It's true that so far it is not Mad Men, but let's face it, nothing is and nothing will.<br />
<br />
MVP: McNairy is the one who does the most with his character in this episode and shows already how to inhabit a complex character.<br />
<b><br /></b><b>4. <i>Louie</i>: "Pamela (1)" (Season 1 Episode 10)</b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--FptQzsz---/ywqwq8egtr8rm8trmfda.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--FptQzsz---/ywqwq8egtr8rm8trmfda.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<b><br /></b>
This was another brilliant <i>Louie </i>episode but at this point who's counting? After Amia leaves, Louie is heartbroken and Dr. Bigelow tells him, in a great monologue, that this is the good part. Afterwards he receives a text from Pamela and he smiles. In the middle of the episode there's a lengthy stand-up scene about God, women and the naming of clothing after crimes. In the scene after this, Louie insists on kissing and holding Pamela when she doesn't want to. In my opinion, and this is what some reviewers are clutching their pearls at, Louie (the director) is fully aware of this juxtaposition. Louie (the character) is behaving in a way that goes against the insight that he has shown in his monologue. This is not a faux-pas; this is a very intelligent way of showing the attitude of some men (even intelligent men) towards rape and rape culture. <i>Louie </i>shows that it is a brilliant, complex show again.<br />
<br />
MVP: Let's give it up for Charles Grodin as Dr. Bigelow. He is the breakthrough of this season. I hope they keep him around.<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>3. <i>Penny Dreadful</i>: "Demimonde" (Season 1 Episode 4)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimhm5PjeSATUo5eZHYZq2EJDKcnjzDDX_qhEeGoAMEU7yyzb4Ctb28YzBug-n7lFtiallmUimi5eEGTK-d3eV37zCyDSH-Ot7gK9rVo5luC4DUEavV4nMr7wxfbAw5bOTnw4uFdavRQS0/s1600/vlcsnap-2014-06-02-21h19m14s67.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimhm5PjeSATUo5eZHYZq2EJDKcnjzDDX_qhEeGoAMEU7yyzb4Ctb28YzBug-n7lFtiallmUimi5eEGTK-d3eV37zCyDSH-Ot7gK9rVo5luC4DUEavV4nMr7wxfbAw5bOTnw4uFdavRQS0/s1600/vlcsnap-2014-06-02-21h19m14s67.png" height="179" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I had been a little on the fence about this show but I really enjoyed this episode. It started on a grim note with the boring Dorian Gray in an, admittedly, really cool room with a lot of whores of both sexes. When they leave, he opens a hole in the wall behind a painting and passing an, admittedly, really cool mirror corridor, arrives to where his painting is kept. But we don't see it yet. That's a nice touch. I like how the show has been playing so far with what we know and we don't. A clear example is the first Frankenstein monster we see being the second and in this episode, the whole "What is going on with Josh Hartnett?". Is he a werewolf? Is he just squeamish in a show with a lot of blood? In the first part of the episode, Victor and James Bond try to cure the vampire by giving him clean blood (Ethan refuses, which is fishy) but it doesn't work, no matter how artfully Eva Green can throw an apple. The second part of the episode takes place in a grand guignol theatre where Ethan takes Brona and where also Dorian and Vanessa are. After a bloodbath of a play, the four characters come together and after a little bit of playful banter between Ethan and Vanessa, Brona gets jealous but also sad because she has the Satine disease and leaves. Dorian invites Ethan to a Fight Club-esque place where a dog has to kill rats while people place bets. More interestingly, they retire to Dorian's place and after having a few drinks... They kiss! And start undressing each other! And then the episode ends! Awful timing! I was not seeing that one coming in a million miles. But, obviously, I like it. Bring on the bisexualities!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Billie Piper as Brona because it is a delight to watch her reactions in the theatre scene and can also sell the fight scene with Ethan and the whole coughing-blood-and-falling-down business.<br />
<br />
<b>2. <i>Louie</i>: "Elevator Part 6" (Season 4 Episode 9)</b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YDb_0yDe3mM/U5B0KU4bqjI/AAAAAAAAAPg/-Bpi7gywdYY/s1600/1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-YDb_0yDe3mM/U5B0KU4bqjI/AAAAAAAAAPg/-Bpi7gywdYY/s1600/1.png" height="175" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
All good things come to an end and so does Louie and Amia's short-lived love affair. They have one last romantic dinner in which Amia convinces a waiter at the restaurant to read/translate how she feels about Louie but the hurricane/tornado/storm can wait no longer. Most of the people in Brooklyn are dead and Manhattan is starting to be evacuated. Louie rents a car (the guy working there is deliciously oblivious to what's going on) and goes to get his ex-wife and two daughters. This is one of the most oddball episodes in the show, not very reliant on laughs but still darkly funny. A great episode all around.<br />
<br />
MVP: Eszter Balint has been consistently great during Amia's arc and her looking at Louie while the waiter read was heartwarming.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>1. <i>Game of Thrones</i>: "The Mountain and the Viper" (Season 4 Episode 8)</b></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The show had taken a week to cool off and it came back with a vengeance. This was an amazing episode even though it started in the north (snore). But, soon, we forget about them and follow Reek in his adventures. Ramsay Snow's plan works and his father gives him his name but he still is an asshole to Theon. In the Vale, Little Finger is answering incriminatory questions from some random elders who want to hear Sansa's testimony. She comes clean by telling who she is and when it looks like she's about confess, she says that her aunt committed suicide. As she says herself, it was the smart thing to do since Little Finger is the only person protecting her and she even knows what he wants. Sex. They're talking about sex. Very close to Sansa (physically at least) is her sister Arya who has arrived with the Hound to the Vale where they inform them that the Lady Arryn has just died. Maisie Williams proceeds to laugh in an awesome manner. Danaerys is not laughing since she has learned that Jorah was spying on her and makes him leave forever. Sad face. And finally, in King's Landing, the trial by combat is about to start but first we get a really nice scene with Tyrion and Jamie bonding over a mentally challenged cousin which quickly develops in an angsty scene where Tyrion really needs to know the meaning of life. Isn't this show the best? And, at last, the fight. Prince Oberyn has this in the bag and dances circles around the Mountain. Oh, no. Wait. He does not kill him since he wants him to confess about raping and killing his sister and the Mountain throws Oberyn to the ground punching out his teeth (yes, plural. Very plural, in fact) gouges out his eyes and finally, makes his head, literally, pop. It's a incredibly tense scene that is one of the best things ever in this show. We won a bisexual male in <i>Penny Dreadful</i> but we lost one here. Long live Prince Oberyn. Now, what's going to happen to Tyrion? Are they really going to kill him?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark, finally learning how to play the (ominous music) Game of Thrones.</div>

This has been a pretty light week with only six films (it's what happens when you are rewatching <i>Friends </i>and watching <i>Pushing Daisies</i>) but still there have been two monumental films. Since a lot of poetic has been waxed over Murnau's film (not that it doesn't deserve it), I chose to talk about the other one. And that film is <b><i>Stella Cadente</i> (Luis Miñarro, 2014)</b>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.magazinema.es/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Estrella-fugaz-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.magazinema.es/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Estrella-fugaz-1.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
A man looking into the camera tells us that he's been asked to be king of Spain. The man is Amadeo de Saboya and will be king of Spain for only three years. He has very progressive ideas both politically and in his personal life. His views on government and politics are the part drawn from history. He wanted to modernise the cities, to improve the quality of education and to have a monarchy with a Parliament. In the film, he even describes himself as a republican king. The film extends this progressiveness into his personal life and has him being a vegetarian and very open-minded about sexuality. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This is not your regular biopic. This film is what would happen if <i>Marie Antoinette</i> by Sofia Coppola (2006) and an experimental film had a child and the child turned to be gay. From Marie Antoinette it gets that sense of ennui in someone who has everything but can do nothing. From the experimental filmmaking it gets anachronistic music, voice-overs out of nowhere and a sense of not taking things too seriosuly. As for its being gay, there is a lot of homoeroticism in the film, mainly because two characters (the king's valet and a lackey) are infatuated with the king, not only in a sexual way, but also in a spiritual manner. This leads them to several actions by which they try to get closer to the monarch.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The cast is terrific. Àlex Brendemühl plays Amadeo with a tremendous sensibility and with an amazing dead-pan-ish sense of humour. His assistant is the not shy at all (he doesn't have any reasons, he is gorgeous) Lorenzo Balducci. The lackey is played by Àlex Batllori in a manner that would make Visconti proud. And, being actressexuals as we are, we cannot forget the women. Amadeo's wife is brought to life by the wonderful actress who should be cast in everything Bárbara Lennie and the cook is played by a very fun and game Lola Dueñas.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Technically, the film is a delight. It is filmed in a crisp digital image that is not off-putting at all as it sometimes can be. In fact, it contrasts beautifully with the decorations and the costumes which are amazing. As I mentioned the film has a playful experimental side and we get jumpcuts, a series of shots thought as slides in and old-timey projector, a dance moment that is simply great and a lot of other small details that make this movie a truly delicious one.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

Here is a ranking of the episodes I watched last week. Only six! Summer must be around the corner... Careful, this is <span style="color: red;">no country for spoilerphobes</span>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>6. <i>Penny Dreadful</i>: "Resurrection" (Season 1 Episode 3)</b></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://cdn.wegotthiscovered.com/wp-content/uploads/penny-dreadful-2-540x360.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://cdn.wegotthiscovered.com/wp-content/uploads/penny-dreadful-2-540x360.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I did not enjoy this episode a lot. It was not bad but maybe, apart from Josh Hartnett's ass, a little unremarkable. The first part with the first monster was ok, I liked that his backstory was set in the theatre but I still preferred the second creature. He was gentle and his hair was not silly. Also, how come they quote Shelley? If Shelley exists in this world, does Mary Shelly exist too? And if she exists, what is going on? Is this <i>Stranger Than Fiction</i>? And then, I was a little lost. Vanessa had a vision so they went to the zoo but not for any fun stuff, just to find a vampire lair. They kidnap one of the vampires and try (to no avail, I think) to interrogate him about Mina. In the end it turns out that the vampires want Vanessa because she is the best and Mina is just bait. The best parts are Ethan and Brona having sex and Dorian Gray being nowhere to be seen.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Whoever decided to have Hartnett naked.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>5. <i>Orphan Black</i> "Knowledge of Causes, and Secret Motion of Things" (Season 2 Episode 7)</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpQ0GoxZLSEZ2eTKPI3PyXmbR6SP-zMFNL1-FGkX6WPgvdZoaGsEN1Y4IuaSUSspT_RHAvy9TbkyQUFEYhcC4mEM15bgq5_mHZNzMse570wVLF7EuMARpHJm9pWZdzB5hywFfm2qk5_uE/s1600/OB2_EP207_DAY8_JAN7_SW__0001_FULL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpQ0GoxZLSEZ2eTKPI3PyXmbR6SP-zMFNL1-FGkX6WPgvdZoaGsEN1Y4IuaSUSspT_RHAvy9TbkyQUFEYhcC4mEM15bgq5_mHZNzMse570wVLF7EuMARpHJm9pWZdzB5hywFfm2qk5_uE/s1600/OB2_EP207_DAY8_JAN7_SW__0001_FULL.jpg" height="168" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I think this has been the best episode of the season so far. And yet, it only has made it to a fifth position but it was battling heavy weights. Finally, we see the plot thickening in some way I can understand. Finally, the clones are getting closer together again. One caveat though: no Helena is bad. But at least we had a lot of Alison and I even liked Cosima. And Kira obviously likes her since she is willing to give her teeth for her. So now that we know why Rachel wanted Kira, everything makes a little more sense. Except the fact that two characters in this episode have conversations that are not supposed to be overheard in places where it was impossible not to be overheard. First, Vic talks to Angela Deangelis (what kind of a name is that?) and Alison overhears and then Delphine talks to New-guy-in-the-lab (not his real name) and Cosima overhears. Seriously people, secrets are not kept this way. Daario is left alone without Kira but since Rachel is asking for him we hope he'll be back. Oh, there's also Michelle Forbes being bitchy and plotting to kill Leekie. Rachel shows a little mercy and lets him go but he runs into Donnie who has just now learned the whole clone'n'probing thing and is shot by accident. Leekie-leekie no more!<br />
<br />
MVP: Tatiana Maslany as Alison! It is basic but I love the old switcheroos between clones and the whole scene in the rehab facility was really fun. Also, the face she did showing the gloves to Vic.<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>4. <i>Louie</i>: "Elevator Part 4" (Season 4 Episode 7)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://wac.450f.edgecastcdn.net/80450F/screencrush.com/files/2014/05/lo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://wac.450f.edgecastcdn.net/80450F/screencrush.com/files/2014/05/lo.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I really should start taking notes during <i>Louie </i>because by the end of the two episodes, they start blurring together. This one was the one with the flashback to when Louie and Janet get pregnant. And it was so good. The show can always sell this stuff making it special but without making a big thing of it. the first part of the episode dealt with them both in therapy trying to decide what's best for Jane. The scene was pure gold. From Louie getting up and screaming out the window to his asking "Can we leave now when this feels even?" after Janet seems upset because the therapist say she is less guided by her feelings. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Conner O'Malley playing the young Louie. He captured the mannerisms, the laugh and his general spirit perfectly.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>3. <i>Galerías Velvet</i>: "Cuenta Atrás" (Season 1 Episode 15)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.zeleb.es/sites/default/files/styles/news_main_image/public/cristina_radiante_el_dia_de_su_boda.jpg?itok=ra4xBIj5" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.zeleb.es/sites/default/files/styles/news_main_image/public/cristina_radiante_el_dia_de_su_boda.jpg?itok=ra4xBIj5" height="199" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Another finale! And it was a doozy... The episode was set up in the classic TV trope: "How did we get here?" with Cristina arriving at the church and being told that Alberto has not arrived yet. We go back ten hours and we see the process of getting prepared for the wedding. And it turns out that Cristina is a total bitch. There had been clues during the season but in general, the goodie-goodie side tended to win. But now, in HER day nothing is going to go against her wishes. Ana has the opportunity to meet with Someone Important to her Dress Collection but because the bride needs her there she cannot go. Frankly, Ana handled the whole thing terribly. If she's been sweet and suggested someone else (although they were all occupied) maybe it could have happened. But alas, we are supposed to see Cristina as a monster, not only because of this but also because she urges Raúl to leave the galleries after a scandal from his past reaches him. I was convinced they were finally going to get him out of the closet but it was a plagiarism thing. I hope he sticks around for the second season because he is awesome. And, by the way, I still prefer Cristina over Ana.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Manuela Velasco as Cristina who managed to spin the character around but still being her.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>2. <i>Louie</i>: "Elevator Part 5" (Season 4 Episode 8)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://pixel.nymag.com/content/dam/daily/vulture/2014/05/27/27-louie-elevator-part-5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://pixel.nymag.com/content/dam/daily/vulture/2014/05/27/27-louie-elevator-part-5.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This was a truly great episode. For starters, I loved the sort-of framing device (that already started in the previous episode) about the tornado killing Lebron... and 12 million people. The first third of the episode was Todd Barry's life as someone withouth a spouse, without children and without many responsibilities. And it was not a sad thing. He likes his life and the whole bar cheers him on winning a small battle. Then Louie and Amia start considering whether or not to get intimate. After all, there is only one more Elevator episode left. It was a really funny and really special episode.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Ellen Burstyn as Evanka, first almost dying with a piece of candy and then giving one of the best moments of wisdom saying that if you don't fuck the cow, you don't own the cow.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>1. <i>Mad Men</i>: "Waterloo" (Season 7 Episode 7)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.myentertainmentworld.ca/site/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Mad-Men-Waterloo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.myentertainmentworld.ca/site/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Mad-Men-Waterloo.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In the fake season finale Mad Men flies us to the moon. And it seems that alien life is welcoming since it looks like things are looking up. Well, until the devastating epilogue, that is. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. The Apollo 11 launches and the lives of the characters don't stop because of that. Don is almost fired for breach of contract but even though Joan is against him (gasp!) he stays. His marriage is not that lucky and he and Megan call it quits. After saying "Bravo" to the moon landing, Bert dies. This is traumatic enough in itself, but it also means that Jim can fire Don. Luckily, Roger is smart and deals selling SC&P to a bigger agency if they give him and Don five-year contracts. There is a catch, and Ted has to come too but he is fed up with advertising and wants to quit but Don is Don and convinces him. I love how this story brings to mind the end of the third season when they created SCDP, only now, there is a certain weariness to it all. They are older, they are more tired and they don't know how many times they can do it again. In this mindset, the last scene is a great musical number (inside Don's head) where Bert sings that the best things in life are free. This is how television is done.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Elisabeth Moss as Peggy Olsen. She wins the burger chef account and has a terribly good emotional moment with Julio. She is the soul of the show. And she better win an Emmy.</div>

This was also a heavy week with a lot of heavy-weights as Haneke, Bergman or Kalatozov but my pick for the weeks belongs to Ophüls. <b><i>Madame de...</i> (Max Ophüls, 1953)</b> is wonderful.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://lennyleibowitz.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/the-earrings-of-madame-de.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lennyleibowitz.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/the-earrings-of-madame-de.jpg" height="264" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
As the title in English suggests, the movie follows a pair of earrings that take on very different meanings according to the context (so polysemic, as David put it). The first time we see them is because a Countess (a magnificent Danielle Darrieux) is considering selling them to pay off some debts she has. She is presented as a frivolous and somewhat vain woman who prefers to hold on to her furs than to the earrings that her husband (Charles Boyer) gave her as a wedding present. She pretends to have lost them in an elaborate act that shows how good an actress she is. The conflict starts when the jeweller (after promising he would not) tells on her to her husband who buys the earrings again. This time, he gives her to his lover, a woman who gambles them convinced that number 13 is going to be lucky for her. This scene, where she is gambling is a departure from the main plotline and reminded me of the movies of Wong Kar-wai in the sense that we could have an entire movie devoted to this secondary character because it is treated with such interest and care. Baron Donati buys the earrings and, as fate would have it, ends up falling in love with the Countess Louise and gives her the earrings. She has to play an act with his husband as to why she has found the earrings. He, however, understands everything and forces her to give them to a relative. Husband and lover duel and as the Countess runs toward them she hears only a shot, which means that Donati is dead.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I just love how the movie plays with the main character's acting. She mentions that she is a bad liar when in fact, we are seeing her being an expert at it. The exception is a moment that recalls <i>Anna Karenina</i>, where she cannot hide her fear that Donati is hurt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The film is not only interesting thematically, it is a visual feast. The long takes are breathtaking and the movements of the camera are as elegant as the people it follows. In terms of production it is as rich as can be. The art direction and the costumes are wonderful. In fact, its only nomination for the Oscars was for its costumes, showing that, already in the fifties, that branch was willing to look at deserving films even if they were not obvious frontrunners. The performances are also excellent with Danielle Darrieux, Ophüls muse, being the clear standout. After all she is Madame de...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

Here is my ranking of the TV shows I watched last week. Quite a lot of shows have ended but I still managed to put together a top 10. Careful, there will be <span style="color: red;">spoilers</span>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>10. <i>The Simpsons</i>: "The Yellow Badge of Cowardge" (Season 25 Episode 22)</b></div>

<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If this had not been a finale it might have been a decent episode but for the last episode of the season it felt a little unspecial. Homer's storyline with the fireworks was not very inspired since we have seen variations on the same thing for the past 25 years. I was also let down by the ending where Bart learns a lesson and atones himself in the eyes of Milhouse and the town. It is never a good sign when the characters of The Simpsons have to learn and hug. I'll take the non-sequitur endings every day. Things I liked were the gimmick of Lisas's narration, Maggie doing the chicken and Superintendent Chalmer's commentary on the race.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Kirk Van Houten. The crocodile joke was good.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>9. <i>Modern Family</i>: "The Wedding (2)" (Season 5 Episode 24)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://cdn.wegotthiscovered.com/wp-content/uploads/zap-modern-family-season-5-finale-the-wedding-013.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://cdn.wegotthiscovered.com/wp-content/uploads/zap-modern-family-season-5-finale-the-wedding-013.jpeg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This episode worked better as a finale. Granted, it had the big event of a wedding but it played out nicely. I have to admit that I cried a little watching this (I think it's the first time this has happened in this show) when Jay offers to walk Mitchell down the aisle. In general, the episode was well-handled using the escalating problems for the wedding. Phil and Claire's hijinks were as ridiculous as usual but Claire Bowen is good and can sell the stupidity. Things I did not enjoy: Haley hitting on the nanny and Manny and Luke's old-gay-marriage dinamic. If they were still kids it might have been funnier but they are weird. Oh, and Elizabeth Banks explaining what can happen in these extreme pregnancies is golden.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Let's give it to Bowen. She is funny and understated even when confronted with Ty-HumanBlinkingMachine-Burrell.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>8. Orphan Black: "To Hound Nature in Her Wanderings" (Season 2 Episode 6)</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.soundonsight.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Orphan-Black-S02E06-promo-image-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.soundonsight.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Orphan-Black-S02E06-promo-image-2.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The first part of this episode was great. The bonding between sestras Sarah and Helena is awesome, Helena's adventures in the bar were great, Helena's conversation with the little religious freak was nicely done, I even liked Sarah doing research and how it somehow moved forward the plot. But then Sarah decides to leave Helena with the police and, in case you were not paying attention, Helena is the best. So Sarah finds Siobhan (how?) who is staying with Rachel adoptive father who starts to speak a lot of mumbo jumbo I cannot follow for the life of me and the episode ends and I understood nothing. I am just dying for one of the other clones to run into Sarah so she can explain everything to them and see if I can get it. In other news, Alison is bonding with Vic who is actually helping the lady cop. The gentleman cop is bonding with Felix and Cosima and Delphine are doing something resembling science and are having breakthroughs that end up meaning nothing, twenty times per episode. Am I stupid or is the show a little too convoluted?<br />
<br />
MVP: Tatiana Maslany playing Helena, farts and all. Her joy at hitting strangers at bars is just a marvel to watch.<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>7. <i>Penny Dreadful</i>: "Séance" (Season 1 Episode 2)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://ww2.sinaimg.cn/large/932f0ef9gw1efwoezy56vj21kw11xtue.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://ww2.sinaimg.cn/large/932f0ef9gw1efwoezy56vj21kw11xtue.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Well, let's start with the sad first. The scenes with Frankenstein and the Creature were really good so I'm pissed that they killed the latter off. I hope the doctor can just put it together. In bad news, even though I liked our new hooker friend, Dorian Gray is a bore. Judging solely from this episode the casting is off, he looks like a Dorian Gray for Twilight fans, although I understand that if they want to play this for the long haul they need an actor who can age and not look like he's aging so someone younger makes sense. But he is a little bland for my taste. Maybe if he starts having gay sex as promised I will change my mind. Sir Timothy Dalton keeps looking for his daughter and somehow they end up in a séance with a medium but Eva Green is like "Bitch, please, I am more medium than Patricia Arquette and proceeds to give us the best scene of the show so far.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Eva Green, obviously.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>6. Louie: "Elevator Part 3" (Season 4 Episode 6)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.technologytell.com/entertainment/files/2014/05/Louie-elevator_206_208.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.technologytell.com/entertainment/files/2014/05/Louie-elevator_206_208.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ok, first, I have to admit that with all this Elevator bussiness, I am a little confused as to what happens in which episode. If I remember correctly, this is the one with Pamela in the beginning (of which I am not a huge fan and she is having an arc later in the season) and the one where Louie learns that Amia is going back to Hungary and the one where she and Jane have the violin duet in an amazing scene. Anyway, every episode is awesome.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Ellen Burstyn because she is the cutest thing translating for Amia and Louie when they decide to spend the month she has together.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>5. <i>Game of Thrones</i>: "Mockingbird" (Season 4 Episode 7)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://assets2.ignimgs.com/2014/05/19/got407092013hsdsc51591jpg-95857b_960w.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://assets2.ignimgs.com/2014/05/19/got407092013hsdsc51591jpg-95857b_960w.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Can you believe that there's only three episodes left? It seems it was yesterday when we started. I'm so glad that Prince Oberyn is going to fight for Tyrion. I obviously hope he wins. Daenerys wins the internet by getting Daario naked and to compensate the next scene has Melisandre in a bathtub. Arya and the Hound keep going towards the Vale as Brienne and Pod do. Reunion by the ninth episode, pretty please? Although, I am not sure how things will be in the Vale when they arrive because Sansa is kissed by Little finger and therefore threatened by her crazy aunt. But not to worry, she is pushed by Baelish through the moon door. Make her fly!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Emilia Clarke as Daenerys. Not only she's great at showing the character's thirst for justice and good ruling, she lets us see Daario's ass (probably more important than any other reason).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>4. <i>Louie</i>: "Elevator Part 2" (Season 4 Episode 5)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://wac.450f.edgecastcdn.net/80450F/screencrush.com/files/2014/05/lou1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="http://wac.450f.edgecastcdn.net/80450F/screencrush.com/files/2014/05/lou1.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Again, if I'm not mixing up episodes, this is the one where Louie starts to know both Evanka and Amia and he has the really nice shopping trips both alone and with the latter. Oh, and of course this is the one with the wonderful explanation by Jane of why her school is boring. I like how so far, the season is shaping out to be how Louie interacts with women, whether is her daughter, her ex-wife, and old friend, a model, a fat bartender, her downstairs neighbor or her niece which is the one he prefers and the one with which the communication is easiest, even if they don't have a common language. This show is so awesome! And as, GoT, there's only three weeks until it finishes.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Ursula Parker as Jane. Her monologue was great as was her apology to the ridiculous teacher.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>3. <i>Galerías Velvet</i>: "La Noche de la Reina" (Season 1 Episode 14)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/t31.0-8/10295472_560077477445043_7760580818148909772_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/t31.0-8/10295472_560077477445043_7760580818148909772_o.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I love when episodes take place in a short period of time and in very few sets (I'm not sure if that is the definition of a bottled episode) and this was no exception. The night before the wedding, Cristina dress is missing. Later, we'll find out that it was Rita trying to delay the marriage to help Ana but everyone gets out of bed and into production mode and finish a new one, and designed by Raúl no less, before the night is over. In a Spanish soap opera, nights are long and a lot happens in this episode. One of my favorite moments was Luisa coming clean about her abortion with the Velvet Girls. Considering what is going on in Spain with abortion issues it is good to see a TV show that would not need to be this political having an opinion on the matter. It is ironic though that the vision of a show set in the fifties is more progressive than the one in reality.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Asier Exteandía as Raúl de la Riva who plays a hilarious drunk and is one of the anchors of the show being consistently great and game.<br />
<br />
<b>2. <i>Hannibal</i>: "Mizumono" (Season 2 Episode 13)</b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.tvgoodness.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/MizumonoFeatureImage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.tvgoodness.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/MizumonoFeatureImage.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Don't get me wrong, I thank the gods every day because <i>Hannibal </i>is going to have a third season but I love how this wonderful episode could also be read as a series finale. I this was the very last episode, it would be easier to come to the conclusion that basically everyone is dead and that Hannibal is loose in our world. But, taking into account that there is, in fact, going to be a third season, someone must survive, right? I'm betting on the two men making it and the two ladies dying. How awesome was the reveal that Abigail was still (for a few moments) alive? The whole bloody fight in Hannibal's house was great and so befitting for a finale. Briing it back already!<br />
<br />
MVP: This is Dancy's and Mikkelsen's show. And they rule.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>1. <i>Mad Men</i>: "The Strategy" (Season 7 Episode 6)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.eldestiladorcultural.es/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Mad-MEn-the-strategy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.eldestiladorcultural.es/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Mad-MEn-the-strategy.jpg" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Mad Men</i> is, in general, the best thing that has ever been seen on television but when it makes its core the relationship between Don and Peggy, it somehow manages to outdo itself. The rest of the storylines were also really good, I loved the awkward conversation between Joan and Bob (who, I think we can face it now, is not Don's son travelling from the future). I loved Pete's scenes both showing Bonnie off and longing for Trudy (hi, Alison Brie!). There is also the matter of whether to make Harry a partner or not. I am with Joan and Roger on this one. He is the worst. But the heart and the soul of the episode are Don and Peggy working together to find the perfect idea to sell hamburgers to the world. It is not about the food, it is not about the mother feeling guilty for not cooking, it is about family, something neither Don nor Peggy have. But, at least while they are dancing, they have each other.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Elisabeth Moss who should have every award in the planet for her Peggy.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

This week was also a little light on movies but the quality was amazing: Antonioni, Almodóvar, Von Trier... A lot of amazing directors. But in the end I have to choose a Cannes winner (fitting, since we are in the middle of the festival): <b><i>The Tree of Life</i> (Terrence Malick, 2011)</b>.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.cinelogue.com/images/1045.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.cinelogue.com/images/1045.jpg" height="187" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The movie might have been controversial but to me it is simply perfect. I am not a religious person in any way but this movie speaks to me about spirituality and I want to listen. It helps that it's not pandering (as some people want to see it) but a reflective movie that, like our young protagonist, might not have everything figured it out. The movie deals with the divine but also with the human, with how our choices shape who we become, how the way of grace and the way of nature always wrestle inside us.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Visually, it is one of the most sumptuous films I have ever seen, every shot is beautiful and meaningful and it is a contemporary tragedy that Emmanuel Lubezki lost the cinematography Oscar to <i>Hugo </i>(Martin Scorsese, 2011). Aurally, the movie is astounding too, not only for the perfect musical selection but also for Desplat score and for the very inspired voiceovers that appear throughout the film.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The performances are terrific. If I ruled the world, Hunter McCracken would have been nominated and both Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain would have won. I remember one of the happiest seconds in my life was the confusion when they announced the nomination of Jessica Chastain for <i>The Help</i> (Tate Taylor, 2011) and the picture that appeared was from <i>The Tree of Life</i> and I was able to think for a moment that she had been nominated for the right role. Alas, it was not to be. The movie was nominated for three Oscars, losing one to <i>Hugo </i>and two (picture and director) to <i>The Artist</i> (Michel Hazanavicius, 2011) when, as it was clear in Cannes, this was the superior movie. And don't worry, time will tell.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Other movies I saw this week:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>The Man Who Knew Too Much</i> (Alfred Hitchcock, 1934)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Laurence Anyways</i> (Xavier Dolan, 2012) [Rewatch]</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Transamerica</i> (Duncan Tucker, 2005) [Rewatch]</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Neighbors </i>(Nicholas Stoller, 2014)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Snowpiercer </i>(Bong Joon-ho, 2014)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>The Double</i> (Richard Ayoade, 2014)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Blow-Up</i> (Michelangelo Antonioni, 1966)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Melancholia</i> (Lars Von Trier, 2011) [Rewatch]</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>La Piel que Habito</i> (Pedro Almodóvar, 2011) [Rewatch]</div>

Here is my rating of the TV shows I watched last week. Careful, there will be <span style="color: red;">spoilers</span>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>12. <i>Glee</i>: "The Untitled Rachel Berry Project" (Season 5 Episode 20)</b></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://media.tumblr.com/7a34ea2360bb299020f3652818ca8854/tumblr_n5axfis7lT1sk4whgo1_500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://media.tumblr.com/7a34ea2360bb299020f3652818ca8854/tumblr_n5axfis7lT1sk4whgo1_500.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
There was one good thing about this <i>Glee </i>episode. It was the last one of the season. In the past, no matter how terrible I found the show I always looked forward to watching the new episodes but lately it has just been exhausting. It has gone from fun-to-hate to simply hateful. And this season finale was probably the best example. Characterization has never been the show's strong suit, but having Rachel give up Broadway for a career in TV is just ludicrous and a pathetic try to freshen up the show for next season. Then we have Sam and Mercedes breaking up when their relationship has ammounted to nothing in the narrative. Even the musical numbers are lazy, unimaginative and tiresome. In a terrible tie-in promotion of Riley's album we have to endure "Shakin' My Head" (is Willow Smith suing?) while Brittany (why is she even in New York?) wears pajamas. Really, it's like the show has given up. Why have coreography if you can have every number staged to the characters running around without purpose? That's what they do in the non-musical scenes too so it makes sense. Except it doesn't and it's terrible.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: In the absence of Santana, this one goes to Darren Criss (Blaine) because I really liked his performance of "All of Me" even if his storyline was ridiculously written.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>11. <i>Modern Family</i>: "The Wedding (1)" (Season 5 Episode 23)</b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.tvfort.com/files/captures/modern-family-42b67a/Screen-4818755.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.tvfort.com/files/captures/modern-family-42b67a/Screen-4818755.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This show is simply boring. Every storyline seems a rehash of one we have already seen, or worse, one that we have already seen in another TV show, preferably a 30 year-old one. The stories ranged from the awful (Haley and the nanny) to the non-existent (Claire and Luke, Jay and Gloria) briefly passing through the ok (Mitch and Cam, Alex and Phil). And what's worst is that this was an almost-finale packed with guest stars who, even though they were the best part of the episode, did not have a lot to do. Stop bothering Elizabeth Banks and Celia Weston with this.<br />
<br />
MVP: Nathan Lane as Pepper.<br />
<br />
<b>10. <i>The Simpsons</i>: "Pay Pal" (Season 25 Episode 21)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Lisa is my favorite character in the Simpsons and even though this episode was pretty much centred on her I did not enjoy it very much. As most of this season it felt treaded territory and the gags were generally unfunny. Also, and it is something I don't like in <i>The Simpsons</i>, they spend half the episode preparing the main story. You have twenty minutes, we don't need to know that Marge is afraid to get store-bought cake.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Homer, ruining the game of "Cluedo".<br />
<br />
<b>9. <i>Orphan Black</i>: "Ipsa Scientia Potestas Est" (Season 2 Episode 5)</b><br />
<br />

<br />
Finally, we get some movement in this show with the reunion of the sestras and Rachel and Cosima feeling close too. I think the show is at its best when the clones are together so please, stop fumbling Alison's stories. Cal keeps being dreamy and taking care of Kira. Rachel and Paul have angry sex and for some reason I can't quite understand, one of the girls at the commune where Helena was locked up has her mouth sewn up and is threatened with carrying a baby that I'm guessing is Helena's. Also, Felix almost gets it on with the mortician but is interrupted by Paul who only wants his fingerprints on a murder weapon. You know, what they call Tuesday.<br />
<br />
MVP: Tatiana Maslany as Helena, darkly funny bur never falling into charicature.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
First things first, is there someone more beautiful than Eva Green? Ok, now we have that out of the way, we can focus on the episode which was really good, especially considering that sometimes pilots are a little wobbly because they have to introduce us to a new world. By the way, I spent this whole episode saying to my boyfriend: "Is this the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen?" and he was like "No, it's not" but he had to reconsider at the end when we find out that the missing daughter of Timothy Dalton is named Mina (!). Eva Green and Josh Hartnett had really nice chemistry, the production was very impressive and there were parts truly frightening. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the show develops and how much gratuitous homosexuality they can cram in with Dorian Gray</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Harry Treadaway as Victor Frankenstein. I think it helped that I did not know him but I really liked his performance.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div>
<b>7. <i>Louie</i>: "Elevator Part 1" (Season 4 Episode 4)</b></div>

<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Ellen Burstyn is in Louie, people! (And no, Julia did not steal her Oscar (Anf yes, it's always a good chance to bring that up)) She plays a neighbor that gets stuck in the elevator and whom Louie has to help by waking up a stranger who does not speak English and who afterwards cooks a pie for him. Before all this, there is a great story with Louie's daughters (whom I love so, so much) where Jane has a nightmare and is convinced that she keeps dreaming (Most Lynchian TV show ever alert (after <i>Twin Peaks</i> because duh)). Because of that she leaves the subway train with her sister and her father and waits for them in the platform in a terryfing scene.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
MVP: Ursula Parker as Jane because it is astounding that she's so good being so young.<br />
<br />
<b>6. <i>Galerías Velvet</i>: "Mentiras Piadosas" (Season 1 Episode 13)</b></div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
What's the best way to convince a bride to be that her future husband is not in love with the seamstress that made her dress? Well, by faking a relationship between the seamstress and the groom's best friend, of course. Glad you asked. Yes, Ana and Mateo have to pretend to be in a relationship and hilarity ensues when they answer different things to very simple questions (how come they did not even go through the basics?). Bárbara goes into labour not before uttering the best line in the episode ("¡Doña Aurorita!"), Luisa deals with the aftermath of her abortion, Rita waits for Pedro calling for Germany and Clara deals surprisingly well with the whole Mateo-Ana thing. She even invites her over for chocolate! Oh, and lest you forget this is a soap-opera, Alberto's mother (whom everyone supposed dead) is coming back. Scandal!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Aitana Sánchez-Gijón as Doña Blanca, not only because she is always gold, but because in this episode she could show a lot of different colours at once in her scenes with Luisa<br />
<br />
<b>5. <i>Hannibal</i>: "Tome-wan" (Season 2 Episode 12)</b><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
In this episode Will and Hannibal keep palying chicken to see who is going to end up in prison. Bedelia reappears and warns Jack and Will that if they think they are about to catch Dr. Lecter is only because he wants them to think so. I think Hannibal Lecter is one of the most terrifying villains in the history of literature/media. In <i>The Silence of the Lambs</i> (Jonathan Demme, 1991) he is basically the good guy and he is so nightmare-inducing. What I find really scary is his lack of motive, he kills and is evil just out of curiosity, just to see what happens. When he finds reason to mutilate Mason, the fact that he is a sadist who has tortured her sister for years is of no consequence. But, he's rude. So he drugs him, makes him feed his face to Will's dogs and eat his own nose. As Kate Winslet/Katy Brand would say: Like normal. The episode ends with Hannibal accepting Will's suggestion of turning himself in, something I don't think is going to happen in a million years. But we'll see. Only one episode left. Sad face.<br />
<br />
MVP: Gillian Anderson as Bedelia du Maurier. She has created such a unique and interesting character that I would follow into a spin-off no questions asked.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>4. <i>Mad Men</i>: "The Runaways" (Season 7 Episode 5)</b></div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The sixties are really taking their toll and people are going crazy left and right. But, yes, no one is crazier than Ginsberg. Talk about a nip slip. I'm really looking forward to seeing what this goodbye means to both Peggy and Stan who has one of the two most hilarious things in the episode when hateful Lou asks him if he knows who had a stupid dream and he answers "You?". The other most hilarious thing is Betty screaming "I'm not stupid, I speak Italian" after Henry scolds her for talking about Vietnam. Also, Stephanie (Anna Draper's niece) is pregnant but Megan finds a way to get rid of her so she and Don can have a threesome with a friend of hers. By the end of the episode, Don grovels a little to get into a cigarettes account and he does eventually. He keeps on climbing.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: This one goes to Jessica Paré because she makes Megan a fascinating character when it might come off as unlikable.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>3. <i>Game of Thrones</i>: "The Laws of Gods and Men" (Season 4 Episode 6)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s.wsj.net/public/resources/images/BN-CT036_game_E_20140511220932.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://s.wsj.net/public/resources/images/BN-CT036_game_E_20140511220932.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This episode is full of badass moments that I loved. First, Davos tells it like it is to the Iron Bank. Then, Daenerys, rules and decides in the complaints and requests of the many people of Mereen. There's a very Antigone-like moment that is really cool. I think the story of Our Mother of Dragons is one of the most interesting in TV. We, as an audience, inevitably root for her but also wonder if she's doing, not the right thing, but the smart thing. Poor Theon is still in full Reek-mode but it looks like he's going to have to play a part. I don't know if he looks clever enough to pull it off but we shall see. And finally, the scene of the episode, is Tyrion's trial. We see a series of people bending or ommiting the truth to make Tyrion look bad and what's interesting is that no character out-right lies. With the exception of the heart-breaking testimony of Shae who sends Tyrion in a speech to be remembered for all time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Peter Dinklage as Tyrion because the trial part is simply awesome and he is amazing in the scene.<br />
<br />
<div>
<b>2. <i>Louie</i>: "So Did the Fat Lady" (Season 4 Episode 3)</b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.gambitmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/louie1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.gambitmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/louie1.jpg" height="179" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In my not-so-humble opinion, the best episodes of <i>Louie </i>are the ones where things don't go as you expected them, but afterwards you see that the way they went was the only possible way. And this episode was one of those. Louie rejects a bartender at the place where he does stand-up but eventually they go out together. The date is going great but Louie makes the mistake of telling her she is not fat. After this lie, which I totally got, lying makes up society; she goes into a tirade about men, women, size, love and everything in between. It is a really poignant moment that shows how Louis C.K. is willing to go to uncomfortable places and say the things that people don't say in fiction. I don't know how to explain that this is not a very special episode of Glee. I guess it's just mature and aimed at thinking adults and not to the brainless audience of Ryan Murphy (of which I am a very proud member).</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<br />
<div>
</div>
<br />
<div style="-webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; color: black; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; font-size: medium; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; orphans: auto; text-align: justify; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: auto; word-spacing: 0px;">
<div style="margin: 0px;">
MVP: Sarah Baker, who is very likable even though she is all the things we are not supposed to like in women: fat, opinionated, persistent and bluntly honest.</div>
</div>
<br />
<b>1. <i>Grey's Anatomy</i>: "Fear (of the Unknown)" (Season 10 Episode 24)</b><br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
In the not-so-immortal words of Carrie Bradshaw in <i>Sex and the City</i> (Michael Patrick King, 2008), it's not logic, it's love. I can maybe understand that from an objective point of view this was not the best episode of the week. For instance the terrorist attack plotline could have been handled better if it had been spread across two episodes. But I don't care. This was my best episode of the week, the one where I spent almost its totality crying out loud. The episode was dedicated to honor the best relationship in the show: Mer and Cristina's, the twisted sisters themselves. I hate Sandra Oh a little for leaving the show but this was the best way possible. I was afraid that they were going to kill her in the mall. Although that would have been interesting for next season Meredith, I think it would have come off as cheap. A grown-up goodbye, because that's the way life is, rang a lot truer to the show. I absolutely adored every callback to past moments in the show and when they danced it out I almost died. And Cristina saying to Meredith that she is her person. I'm tearing up just thinking about it. And telling her that Derek's not the sun but she is. Oh my god. I have to stop now. See you next year Grey Sloan.<br />
<br />
MVP: Ellen Pompeo and Sandra Oh. Obviously.</div>

Here is my ranking of the TV shows I watched last week (<span style="color: red;">spoilers </span>abound):</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
13. <i>Bad Teacher</i>: "Evaluation Day" (Season 1 Episode 3)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5Rvgp8WwKF6bB6JxKPxnZSp5f5XGjVNy_cYDEdQyGlvui2xsswd9Y-XOqVBI69eiyBxHCNQ-aGXIDgiB-bw-PkZeF3Us61nswlvRXlJN8DRATQJmgY5QZemy4wfA4uXX7ryuDn0J_QsE/s1600/Bad+Teacher+-+Episode+1.03+-+Evaluation+Day+-+Promotional+Photos+(2).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5Rvgp8WwKF6bB6JxKPxnZSp5f5XGjVNy_cYDEdQyGlvui2xsswd9Y-XOqVBI69eiyBxHCNQ-aGXIDgiB-bw-PkZeF3Us61nswlvRXlJN8DRATQJmgY5QZemy4wfA4uXX7ryuDn0J_QsE/s1600/Bad+Teacher+-+Episode+1.03+-+Evaluation+Day+-+Promotional+Photos+(2).jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I have just learned that the show was cancelled after this episode. I'm not sure if they are going to air the rest of the episodes or if I'm going to watch them because this show was truly terrible. But luckily, it was short-lived. Let us hope Ari Graynor goes back to doing indie comedies and doesn't spend her career trying to happen in television. The show was unfunny, not remotely resembling any known reality and profoundly boring for a 20-minute show. Seriously, it is for the best. I cannot even remember what went on in the episode. Good riddance.<br />
<br />
MVP: Graynor but only by default.<br />
<br />
12. <i>Glee</i>: "Old Dogs, New Tricks" (Season 5 Episode 19)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://pbs.twimg.com/media/BnAMH0LCEAEivFG.jpg:medium" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://pbs.twimg.com/media/BnAMH0LCEAEivFG.jpg:medium" height="172" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
If this picture shows how Santana feels, imagine how I feel. This episode was terrible. There is no going around it. Plain and simply terrible. How much of a megalomaniac can Chris Colfer be? He writes an episode that revolves entirely about how his character is always right without a hint of irony. Kurt knows best. The rest of the bunch are just idiots that cannot deal with taking care of dogs while mantaining sexless relationships or divas that are so stupid as to not know when they're blowing off the PR opportunity they themselves have set. June Squibb was adorable though.<br />
<br />
MVP: I would give it to Santana by default but she should not have gone blonde so I'm giving this to Lea Michele only for the line "I'm doing it for the animals". I also love that she is the butt of a joke in <i>Neighbors</i>.<br />
<br />
11. <i>New Girl</i>: "Cruise" (Season 3 Episode 23)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://cdn.hitfix.com/photos/5526872/new-girl-cruise_article_story_large.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://cdn.hitfix.com/photos/5526872/new-girl-cruise_article_story_large.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This was kind of a downer, specially for a season finale. The parts with the captain were funny but the Jess/Nick dinamic is getting tiresome although the montage with the couple activities was fun but, really, how longer can they sustain a show on this weird relationship. I'm not saying that they should be together or that they should not deal with the break-up. But it doesn't need to be the center of every episode. And I don't want Cece back with Smichdt. I want him dead. In a ridiculous, humilliating way.<br />
<br />
MVP: Damon Wayans Jr, having fun with Coach's fear of boats.<br />
<br />
10. <i>Modern Family</i>: "Message Received" (Season 5 Episode 22)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://cdn.wegotthiscovered.com/wp-content/uploads/zap-modern-family-season-5-episode-22-message-008-639x360.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://cdn.wegotthiscovered.com/wp-content/uploads/zap-modern-family-season-5-episode-22-message-008-639x360.jpeg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This was a pretty decent episode, although as my boyfriend pointed out, Mitchell and Jay arguing by the ending was weird and unnecessary. This is not a character development show, it's a situation comedy. If you want to show Jay's uncomfortable about the wedding, make it (or try to make it) funny, don't go for deep emotions. The Pritchett-Delgado household storyline was the one I enjoyed most. I also liked Cam and Mitch's story, mainly because I'll take any opportunity to show Cam as the dumb person he is. The Dunphy-Pritchett story was also ok but not as inspired as it could have been but I guess it sets up Claire's next season pregnancy. This week, the wedding arrives!<br />
<br />
MVP: Sofía Vergara as Gloria. She was really fun and she has chemistry with Stella who is a very good acting dog.<br />
<br />
9. <i>Orphan Black</i>: "Governed As It Were By Chance" (Season 2 Episode 4)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://img2.tvtome.com/i/u/1f4f7611270b49ebc9b3b0fc5fb2528a.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://img2.tvtome.com/i/u/1f4f7611270b49ebc9b3b0fc5fb2528a.png" height="178" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And we have the first sort-of-dull episode of the season. Alison is in rehab and Cosima coughs a little. That's how far their stories go. Well, the latter also helps Sarah researching the Leda Project and giving a half-assed mythology lesson. Can you tell I don't like Cosima? Meanwhile Helena escapes the religious freaks and finds Sarah who had been impersonating Rachel on the phone to get into her apartment. Maslany is very good playing terrified when Sarah sees Helena since she thought she was dead. In general, not a lot happened in this episode although I think Rachel's minion slash monitor is gone for good.<br />
<br />
MVP: As good as Maslany is I'm going to give this one to Maria Doyle Kennedy because she makes Mrs. S very interesting with very little to do.<br />
<br />
8. <i>The Simpsons</i>: "Brick Like Me" (Season 25 Episode 20)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.estrenoscinema.es/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Brick_Like_Me_promo_5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.estrenoscinema.es/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Brick_Like_Me_promo_5.jpg" height="179" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Who'd have known? It took a shameless corporate sell-out to have a decent episode of <i>The Simpsons</i>. Granted, it borrows too much from <i>The Lego Movie</i> (Phil Lord et al, 2014) but since they admit so in the episode (and it's done in a funny way with the huge Emmett and Wyldstyle dolls in the background) we can give them a pass. It also reminded me of the G.I. Joe episode of <i>Community </i>with the blurring of the two realities. It was a very funny episode both with character-based jokes and with Lego-based jokes (I loved the creation according to Lego). I was not in love with Bart's storyline but it ties up nicely in the end. Another thing I did not like was the heavy-handed (and again, quite outdated) parody of <i>The Hunger Games</i>. Plus, everyone knows that the books/movies are not about love.<br />
<br />
MVP: Homer, explaining to Lisa that parents never like to play with their kids. He would rather read the fiction in The New Yorker. The fiction!<br />
<br />
7. Grey's Anatomy: "Everything I Try to Do, Nothing Seems to Turn Out Right" (Season 10 Episode 23)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjurWYrn9wGbpvax6hae8faCcs9dpQDBzFd8IpF2wvK1Q8_42IaMAsWxYR5b7T_2a1btEJkUtMQIVBXSF3gyGgqZzN1eKRpERqtS3aRaxqOniZZtL214gHoBxh_y0wMueT3NHM6-C5Eswk/s1600/135525_8991_pre.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjurWYrn9wGbpvax6hae8faCcs9dpQDBzFd8IpF2wvK1Q8_42IaMAsWxYR5b7T_2a1btEJkUtMQIVBXSF3gyGgqZzN1eKRpERqtS3aRaxqOniZZtL214gHoBxh_y0wMueT3NHM6-C5Eswk/s1600/135525_8991_pre.jpg" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
As of the 8th of this month, the show has been confirmed to have an 11th season. And if Meredith says yes to Derek's proposal of moving to Washington D.C., the show might move with them. Would it be too much of a shark jump? I think that it's not going to happen and it is probably for the best. There are too many lovable characters in Seattle. Cristina will soon not be in Seattle (or in the show) and is looking for a replacement for head of cardio, something Owen has her do to convince her to stay. Owen, I'm with you, I want her to stay, but you have to convince Sandra Oh, not Yang. She is just following orders. April and Jackson start sharing the news about the pregnancy and Callie learns that she cannot carry another child. Stephanie takes the bullet for Miranda's arrogance (the parents were stupid, granted, but Bailey knew better than that. Or maybe she was inspired by cutting LVAD wires and whatnot) and I don't know if that means bye bye Steph, but who is leaving for sure is Leah, who is just not good enough to be a surgeon. I liked how they dealt with this scene. There were no hijinks, just the truth. Telling a likable character they are not good at the job they want to do is risky but it's what happens in real life.<br />
<br />
MVP: Sara Ramirez who is one of the best criers in TV history. She just breaks my heart everytime she cries.<br />
<br />
6.. <i>Louie</i>: "Model" (Season 4 Episode 2)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.soundonsight.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Louie-S04E02-promo-pic-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.soundonsight.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Louie-S04E02-promo-pic-3.jpg" height="212" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Louie is back! I love this TV show so much that it would make my top 3 of best TV shows ever. And even though the two episodes were great, I preferred the first one. This second one was hilarious too, don't get me wrong. A really hateful Jerry Seinfeld (is he ever not hateful?) asks Louie to introduce him and do stand up for ten minutes without telling him anything other than to clean up his act. The best Louie comes up when he cannot discuss jerking-off and penises is the essential dumbness of chickens. It doesn't go precisely well, something that Hateful Seinfeld takes advantage of, starting his routine making fun of Louie. Luckily, a model that was in the audience chats him up and they end up having sex. But, she doesn't know he's extremely ticklish and she ends up almost blind. You know, Louie's life.<br />
<br />
MVP: Louie. If I didn't have the best boyfriend in recorded history I would marry Louie without a second thought.<br />
<br />
5. <i>Game of Thrones</i>: "First of His Name" (Season 4 Episode 5)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://media.comicbook.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Game-of-Thrones-First-of-His-Name-2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://media.comicbook.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Game-of-Thrones-First-of-His-Name-2.jpg" height="212" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This episode, up until the end, was extremely women-centric. Every scene except the last one in the North is focused on a woman or more. And frankly, they are mostly the best characters. Cersei gives in and asks Margaery to marry her son. The recent widow pushes her luck, deliciously pondering whether to call Cersei sister or mother. Later, Cersei makes friends with Oberyn and even though she most likely wants to influence Tyrion's trial, it's a very nice bonding scene. Danaerys needs to be more than the Mother of Dragons and decides not to go to King's Landing yet but stay and rule as the queen she is. Sansa continues to have the worst luck and ends up with her crazy aunt accused of having seduced Littlefinger. Arya's scene was very exciting as she recites all the people she intends to kill and finishes up by saying "The Hound" who is lying next to her. In the north, the new Crispin Glover (best death ever, by the way) tries to rape the sister of the <i>Love Actually</i> boy but Bran saves the day by getting into Hodor. I really liked that moment when Hodor is obviously confused about what has happened but nevertheless helps Bran withouth question (not that he could actually pose a question).</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Lena Headey as Cersei. She plays all three of her scenes beautifully.<br />
<br />
4. Galerías Velvet: "Terciopelo Azul" (Season 1 Episode 12)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/t31.0-8/902714_554063334713124_6771371132517710579_o.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/t31.0-8/902714_554063334713124_6771371132517710579_o.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
It's not great form to start by the ending, but when it's this monumental, what are you going to do? Cristina sees Ana and Alberto kissing. I think they don't see her so maybe she is going to keep the secret for a while. She finds out in the country club where she has thrown a party for Alberto (good) and where she wants to keep him for life, apparently (bad). In that party, Raúl, who has accepted to tame his vision in order to do one more collection for Velvet, not only gives Cristina a blue velvet dress but also sings "Blue Velvet" while Ana sings back-up quite adorably. Also, we have new characters: Cristina's brother (who is already making eyes at Patricia) and his wife (who is making eyes at the idea of mistreating the service). The three couples are going strong. Mateo invites Clara to be his plus one at the wedding; Pedro tells Rita that he loves her and to wait for him, but since he's screaming for a cab she doesn't really hear (Esmérate, Rita) and Max and Doña Blanca kiss. Oh and the best scene is Alberto asking Patricia to be his maid of honor. They are so cute!<br />
<br />
MVP: Miguel Ángel Silvestre, no matter how many letters he can eat, he was really good in this episode playing the man torn between two loves and being nice to Patricia.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
3. Louie: "Back" (Season 4 Episode 1)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i2.cdnds.net/14/19/618x411/ustv-louie-s04-e01-back.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i2.cdnds.net/14/19/618x411/ustv-louie-s04-e01-back.jpg" height="212" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Well, it's not easy to find <i>Louie </i>pictures, so let's pretend that the one I chose is from the episode (which could be, because, hello, generic). And, not to reiterate, but I love <i>Louie </i>and I love Louie. And I love his daughters (Dear Aids, knock it off). And I love his poker nights (you have a desk?). And I loved the conversation about cock rings. And I loved his doctor. So, in general, Louie = love.<br />
<br />
MVP: Louie himself with the doctor being a close second.<br />
<br />
2. <i>Hannibal</i>: "Ko no Mono" (Season 2 Episode 11)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2G49_W_mhsJwTB9We93BIHjMQBQDZNzKFIRcMi0D0ntceiuYDQbvxc28Ef1kLLY3HDmvH7KHW_8eqcMnOzRtXKw_M9xDS0yjkzd47YQ2wexUYzVoEhVNFWR_F4tqUo4VaWAf_uwwu08o/s1600/vlcsnap-2014-05-10-20h05m22s159.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2G49_W_mhsJwTB9We93BIHjMQBQDZNzKFIRcMi0D0ntceiuYDQbvxc28Ef1kLLY3HDmvH7KHW_8eqcMnOzRtXKw_M9xDS0yjkzd47YQ2wexUYzVoEhVNFWR_F4tqUo4VaWAf_uwwu08o/s1600/vlcsnap-2014-05-10-20h05m22s159.png" height="179" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This is another episode that really needs to be discussed from the end backwards. Freddie is alive. Boom. I guess they put fake teeth on a different corpse but unless Tom and Jerry are in on it, they should be fired for not noticing (I really don't like those two characters). By the way, how awesome and iconic were the images of the wheelchair in flames rolling down the parking lot and then, of the corpse posed as Shiva? Very much so. Alana, until the end twist, continues to be as silly as they come but I guess we, as an audience, were played in a very similar way as her. Margot is pregnant by Will but Mason performs an abortion and makes sure that her sister is sterile. Brotherly love, you know. Will confronts him (first, as pictured above, he checks Mason's hair not giving credit) but not as much as possible because now we know he is not cuckoo and suggests Mason should feed Hannibal to his pigs.<br />
<br />
MVP: Hugh Dancy keeps being the best player in the show but I also enjoyed a lot the scene between Alana and Jack.<br />
<br />
1. <i>Mad Men</i>: "The Monolith" (Season 7 Episode 4)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images.amcnetworks.com/amctv.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/madmen-704-main-590.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images.amcnetworks.com/amctv.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/madmen-704-main-590.jpg" height="203" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Halfway through the episode, Roger jokes about Don not having clubbed another ape in a week. By the end of the episode, Don has killed every ape, touched the monolith, gone to space and, thankfully, back. Back to working for Peggy. We know how humiliating this is and since Joan is telling Peggy all the juicy details of Don's return it could get even moreso if she decides to reach out or condescend to him. Meanwhile, a computer is being set up in the former creative lounge and Harry (who do we hate more? him or Lou?) says it's not a symbol to which Don, very cleverly, answers that it's quite literal. Roger's storyline is also very interesting. Her spoiled daughter has decided to leave her husband and toddler and move to a commune in upstate New York. The show, always ambiguous, never makes it clear who's right and leaves it to the audience to figure it out, or to figure out if it's possible to figure it out. Mona's presence is always welcome by the way. This episode was so, so good. I don't know how I'm going to survive when this half-season ends in two weeks.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Jon Hamm as Don Draper. And he does not have an Emmy yet.</div>

Even though this week I watched some true stinkers (How can <i>Divergent </i>be so terrible?), I had the good luck to see two classics from the 30s. And since I could not choose, I've decided to cheat a little and select them both as movies of the week.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
First, I watched (for the third time!) <b><i>It Happened One Night</i> (Frank Capra, 1934)</b> and it was every bit as wonderful as the other two times.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://movieclassics.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/it-happened-4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://movieclassics.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/it-happened-4.jpg" height="307" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It was the first movie to win the five Big Awards at the Oscars (Picture, Director, Screenplay and both leading performers) and rightfully so. The script is witty, smart and extremely funny while also being quite tender and romantic. It even manages to touch on the contemporary depression while staying light and classy. Both Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert are charm personified. They are so talented and so game in this movie. The two scenes I like best are the hitchhiking one and the one where they pretend to be married so the police doesn't find her and they pretend-scream and pretend-fight. Oh, and I was already forgetting the Flying Trapeze song! It is just a sweet scene that does not advance the plot but it lets us see the characters warming to each other being goofy, sweet and so crush-worthy. Capra's direction is top-notch too. It is, quite simply, a masterpiece.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The second 30s classic I watched was brand-new to me but I had anticipated for a while and it did not disappoint. In fact it exceeded expectations. I'm talking about <b><i>Stage Door</i> (Gregory LaCava, 1937)</b>.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPil-hx2mBgWq3-_3Z-BB9ujj2UsxPblqZQnBtRLvmXFIINAcp8xPGa-t_RwVhp0vSlHgRd1rfb2tcChMwDZiLLuedduq7u-Cgji-JHOZ74racU-YdsTzKt1ErgyHrQHW1ktXBscM5wN8/s1600/Stage+Door+(6).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPil-hx2mBgWq3-_3Z-BB9ujj2UsxPblqZQnBtRLvmXFIINAcp8xPGa-t_RwVhp0vSlHgRd1rfb2tcChMwDZiLLuedduq7u-Cgji-JHOZ74racU-YdsTzKt1ErgyHrQHW1ktXBscM5wN8/s1600/Stage+Door+(6).jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Ginger Rogers and Katharine Hepburn star as aspiring actresses and they are amazing both in their bickering repartees in the beginning of the movie as in their complicity towards the end. As if this was not enough, the rest of the cast is incredibly good and the scenes with all the girls in the boarding house living room are delicious. The script is also extremely intelligent not only in the hilarious one-liners but also, going somewhere deeper, in what it says about relationships among women. LaCava's direction is great too; I just love shots with a lot of people acting together and in this movie, they never seem stuffy or theatrical. It is, quite simply, another masterpiece.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b>Other films I watched this week:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<i>Carmina y Amén</i> (Paco León, 2014)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<i>Corpo Celeste</i> (Alice Rohrwacher, 2011)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<i>Austenland</i> (Jerusha Hess, 2013)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<i>Divergent </i>(Neil Burger, 2014)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

This is my ranking for the TV shows I watched last week (tread carefully, <span style="color: red;">spoilers </span>abound):</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
11. <i>Bad Teacher</i>: "Daddy Issues" (Season 1 Episode 2)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://www.cbspressexpress.com/images/releases/docimages/3977/895457-349508/4a47a0db6e60853dedfcfdf08a5ca249.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="217" src="https://www.cbspressexpress.com/images/releases/docimages/3977/895457-349508/4a47a0db6e60853dedfcfdf08a5ca249.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It is sad that the titular character in a tv show about a "sexy, foul-mouthed divorcée who becomes a teacher to find her next husband" (according to Imdb), she has already learned two lessons in two episodes. A good sitcom can do the learning thing right such as <i>Parks and Rec</i> and an inoffensive sitcom can get away with the no-learning thing (<i>Friends </i>or <i>Happy Endings</i>). Why then, is <i>Bad Teacher</i> so bad at this? Ari Graynor is again, quite good but with such a stale script not a lot of good can come up. The secondary storyline about online dating was not only tremendously outdated but also poorly executed. Some of the actors are quite bad (I'm looking at you, Charlotte York-MacDougal-Goldenblatt) but I like some others like the student teacher whose name I'm unaware of. Still, this pretty much sucks.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Ari Graynor, but she deserves better.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
10. <i>The Simpsons</i>: "What To Expect When Bart's Expecting" (Season 25 Episode 19)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://edgecast.metatube-files.buscafs.com/uploads/videos/image/image_234131_3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://edgecast.metatube-files.buscafs.com/uploads/videos/image/image_234131_3.jpg" height="179" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Speaking of dated storylines, in this week's <i>The Simpsons</i> we have a gay horse. <i>Will & Grace</i> did that like fifteen years ago. And it was funnier. The first part of the episode was better with the enthusiatic art teacher and Bart's first steps in voodoo. But in general this just feels uninspired. The show is going to have at least another season but I'm not sure it's such a great idea.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: The couch gag, really beautiful and witty.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
9. <i>Glee</i>: "The Back-Up Plan" (Season 5 Episode 18)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://odstatic.com/todoseries.com/glee-buena1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://odstatic.com/todoseries.com/glee-buena1.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And we have yet another Oscar winner in Glee. Shirley Maclaine plays a wealthy producer who wants to make a star out of Blaine. Suck it, Kurt! Also, how in earth do you choose a One Direction song to perform in front of someone who once did peyote with Joe Kennedy? Maclaine is not bad in the part but it is a little sad to see her slumming this hard. Meanwhile Mercedes decides to plagiarize the trailer for Begin Again and records music out of the stiffness of a studio. She wants Santana to duet with her on her album but Warwick thinks that having her completely unknown high school classmate as a hook might not be the best idea. And still it is ridiculous because Santana is the best so I'm conflicted because of Glee. Rachel meets the Dean of Greendale to test for a TV show for which she is woefully unprepared. But because she is Rachel, they are going to develop a show around her no matter what. Wouldn't it be cool if the show was called Glee and all of the characters played themselves and everything got so meta that Abed would explode? Well, Abed exploding would not be cool, because I like him. But we don't have to worry, I'm sure the idea for the show will be terrible and uninteresting.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Naya Rivera as Santana Lopez. Period.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
8. <i>Modern Family</i>: "Sleeper" (Season 5 Episode 21)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://static2.hypable.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Modern-Family-5x21-5-525x350.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://static2.hypable.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Modern-Family-5x21-5-525x350.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
This was not a great episode but I like Mitchell's storyline with everyone ignoring and forgetting him. Phil's antics get too much on my nerves to be enjoyable and Cam was even more irritating than usual. Gloria trying to put color on her baby was quite weird. As was Jay entering Stella in a dog contest. And how many more times can they do the thing where a character is talking about something and it's phrased in such a way that it sounds as if they have just discovered gay sex. Are we homophobic yet? Nevertheless, Ed O'Neill sells it well but come on, enough is enough.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Jesse Tyler Ferguson who is quite funny playing the victim.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
7. <i>Orphan Black</i>: "Mingling its Own Nature with It" (Season 2 Episode 3)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Even though this week was less crazy and the clones were apart from each other, I really liked this episode. Sarah takes Kira to her father (Daario from GoT and quite yummy, truth be told) and ends up the episode trying to kill Rachel's lapdog in a cliffhangery fashion. Helena is hilarious interacting with the religious freaks. Cosima is still boring but at least she discovers there was another (nine already?) clone but she is dead already due to the clone disease. And finally Alison is a mess. Her musical is opening and she is going to the valley of the dolls so hard that she actually falls off the stage. I would really like for all the clones to get together and kick-ass but as long as they keep the stories this interesting I'm cool with it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Tatiana Maslany playing Alison but also Helena.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
6. <i>New Girl</i>: "Dance" (Season 3 Episode 22)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://pixel.nymag.com/imgs/daily/vulture/2014/04/30/30-new-girl.o.jpg/a_560x375.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://pixel.nymag.com/imgs/daily/vulture/2014/04/30/30-new-girl.o.jpg/a_560x375.jpg" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<i>New Girl</i> is a weird show. Sometimes it just doesn't come quite together but when it works, it works. And this episode worked a lot. I loved Jess's enthusiasm with the dance and the whodunnit with shark-girl and also Jess and Coach being friends. I really enjoyed Cece trying to make her past look cool by sounding bad. I would love to share a salad with Nick. I liked Winston trying to prove he does not suck all the sexual tension out of every situation and succeeding since he has a Bieber-effect on prepubescent girls. I even tolerated Schmidt. Go figure...<br />
<br />
MVP: Hanna Simone as Cece was very funny but I wish we could see her boyfriend again.<br />
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
5. <i>Galerías Velvet</i>: "La Visita" (Season 1 Episode 11)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.formulatv.com/images/fgaleria/41400/41409_grace-kelly-visita-galerias-velvet.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.formulatv.com/images/fgaleria/41400/41409_grace-kelly-visita-galerias-velvet.jpg" height="199" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Well, you can start forgetting about that Nicole Kidman movie opening Cannes because Grace Kelly has already arrived and she is in Velvet. Nevermind that the actress looks or sounds nothing like the princess of Monaco, those are just pesky details. Especially because I want Raúl's collection to succeed and if that involves royal shenanigans, so be it. Luckily, Don Emilio is all right and he is not going to die although Patricia is so good in his job that he should be sick a while. Meanwhile, Luisa finds out she is pregnant. Is it her husband's or the dead-client-that-blackmailed-her-into-sleeping-with-him's? We also have two will they or won't they couples. First, Rita and Pedro which I hope end up together and then, Doña Blanca and Maximiliano, who I also wish end up pairing up. Clara dabbles in the modelling world with disastrous and hilarious results and Ana is given an opportunity to start designing her own dresses. But the most important storyline is the one concerning Alberto and Cristina. She asks him (in a wonderful naive version of Truth or Dare) why he moved to London. He says that it was because of a girl his father did not approve of and he lights up talking about her while Cristina looks in horror.<br />
<br />
MVP: Manuela Velasco as Cristina, not only for that last daunting look but also for her line reading "We have to be one hundred per cent honest".<br />
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
4. <i>Grey's Anatomy</i>: "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" (Season 10 Episode 22)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://seattlegrace.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/greys-anatomy-recap_612x380.jpg?w=600&h=372" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://seattlegrace.files.wordpress.com/2014/05/greys-anatomy-recap_612x380.jpg?w=600&h=372" height="198" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Apart from the ovbiously fake Zurich backgrounds, this episode was awesome, it was even named after a Taylor Swift song. I was more than a little wary when I learnt that Burke was guest-starring. I never really liked the character and these kind of stunts never pay off. But thankfully, I was wrong. It was worth it just to hear Cristina tell him that he doesn't want him. Even if that's not what he meant either. She is married to medicine, to cardio and now, to growing hearts in jars. I really don't want Sandra Oh to leave. She is in my top 4 favorite characters (Meredith, Callie and Addison complete the quartet) and she has been so good through everything. I loved the silly little plot with Callizona, I just love them when they're happy. And Jackson and April story was somehow tied up if only because he is the best man ever. I wonder which resident they're kicking out. But, you know, not too much. And I'm not sure I like Derek's sister sticking any longer. But we shall see.<br />
<br />
MVP: Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey, nailing both the lighter stuff ("His mama took your eyebrows") and the heavier things (Her "You're Leaving" pretty much killed me).<br />
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
3. <i>Game of Thrones</i>: "Oathkeeper" (Season 4 Episode 4)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images.moviepilot-cdn.com/game-of-thrones-oathkeeper-recap-why-did-the-white-walker-spoilers-a2499bb3-2f65-4804-b2ac-6a223909f828.png?width=780&height=441" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images.moviepilot-cdn.com/game-of-thrones-oathkeeper-recap-why-did-the-white-walker-spoilers-a2499bb3-2f65-4804-b2ac-6a223909f828.png?width=780&height=441" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I think I say this every week but I'm really scared about Daenerys. I don't want the former slaves to revolt against her. She is so cool. She fights injustice with justice. Duffy can keep mercy, thank you very much. I also wonder why so many important characters have died and Sam is still alive? He is insufferable. And I dislike the White Walkers too. We don't need zombies everywhere, especially if the CGI is going to be this poor. Over at King's Landing we find out that Lady O. had something to do with Joffrey dying. I don't like that she is willing to let Tyrion carry the blame. Tyrion rules. Over at Sitcom Spinoff Alert, Brienne and Pod go away from the capital to look for Sansa and keep Jamie's honor. This is going to be so much fun!<br />
<br />
MVP: Let's give this one to Emilia Clarke who is always strong and I suspect she is going to be forgotten at the Emmys.<br />
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
2. <i>Mad Men</i>: "Field Trip" (Season 7 Episode 3)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://blog.sfgate.com/dwiegand/files/2014/04/madmenjan-600x399.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://blog.sfgate.com/dwiegand/files/2014/04/madmenjan-600x399.jpg" height="212" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Betty is back! And she's being catty about a bra-less teacher, drinking cow milk and being generally terrible to her adoring son. God, I've missed her. Over in L.A. Megan seems to be going crazy and Don flies out to be with her. He ends up spilling the beans about losing the job and she calls it quits. I really hope we haven't seen the last of Megan. I love the character and Jessica Paré. After returning to New York, Don asks Roger for his job back and Roger tells him to go to the office on Monday. Roger does not let everybody know and we suffer one of the most painful scenes in ever. Don arrives at SCP and he doesn't belong. A very hateful person is occupying his office, the creative nobodies treat him like an equal and everything is terrible. In the last scene of the episode, the partners meet and a very cold Joan lists all the requirements for Don to get the job back (I love Hendricks here!). Surprisingly (for me, at least), Don says yes! He is back! Everyone is back!<br />
<br />
MVP: January Jones as Betty. She is perfect at capturing the duality of the Betty that believes she wants to be a perfect mother and the Betty who actually does not give a fuck about the smallish people living under her roof.<br />
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
1. <i>Hannibal</i>: "Naka-Choko" (Season 2 Episode 10)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://hannibaltvshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/naka-choko-promo2-1024x681.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://hannibaltvshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/naka-choko-promo2-1024x681.jpg" height="212" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
If a couple of years ago you'd have told me that a TV show based on a character done to death was going to be the best thing since sliced bread I would not have believed you. And alas, here we are, and shit is getting real. In happy and completely bonkers and unexpected news, Will has embraced his killer instinct and is helped by Hannibal to create a work of art with a dead body. In sadder news, Will is real crazy and kills Freddie. I liked her! Sad face. But still, if her death only serves the purpose of Hannibal playfully saying to Will in the kitchen: "You slice the ginger", it will have been worth it. Michael Pitt appears and he is amazing as yet another crazy person (those abound, both in this show and in his filmography) who is training pigs to devour her sister. Said sister (whom I already love) has sex with Will while Hannibal and Alana are going at it and we get this scene where the latter two and Will are having a threesome. As my boyfriend said, it was the two men who should have kissed to drive the message home but I guess that was too much. Vincenzo Natali, never go.<br />
<br />
MVP: Dancy and Mikkelsen. They are (short of Jon Hamm) giving the best performances by leading actors in a drama series and they are not going to be nominated at the Emmys. That is simply unfair. They are superb and their (quite homoerotic) chemistry is palpable.</div>

This week has been lighter than usual but thanks to a 10th anniversary, I rewatched a modern masterpiece: <i>Mean Girls</i> (Mark Waters, 2004). The movie has been everywhere around the internet this past week (I especially liked <a href="http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/5-ways-mean-girls-still-resonates-10-years-on-20140429">this article by The Playlist</a>) and with good reason. Other than in what concers Regina's flare jeans, it has not aged a day.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images4.fanpop.com/image/photos/22200000/Regina-George-mean-girls-22239620-500-259.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images4.fanpop.com/image/photos/22200000/Regina-George-mean-girls-22239620-500-259.gif" height="206" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
First things first, it is still tremendously funny. Basically, every line is quotable on an everyday basis. As it has been ponted out, its humour is not based on references but has a more timeless quality about it and that is why it endures today. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Also, all performances are on point, which is not always the case in this kind of film (e.g. What was going on with Lisa Kudrow in <i>Easy A</i> (Will Gluck, 2010)?). But, of course, some sort of ranking is mandatory and Rachel McAdams as Regina George is queen bee in that aspect too. She should have been nominated for an Oscar (and probably win, if it wasn't for Natalie Portman's category fraud in <i>Closer </i>(Mike Nichols, 2004)). The way she times every aggresive smile is just perfect. On second place I would put Amanda Seyfried's Karen because she manages to layer the character that, on paper, might have been the simplest one. Seyfried's Karen is not just dumb, although she is very dumb. Third place would be Amy Poehler who is simply better at everything than the rest of humans (I already love her in the trailer for They Came Together (David Wain, 2014)). It would be so awesome to reunite her and McAdams as mother-daughter in a comedy. Then, I would mention Lizzy Caplan as Janis because it is something very different than what she does today. The rest of the cast is also very good and it is a movie where even the extras with just a line are funny.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In a word, this movie is so fetch.</div>
<br />
<b>Other films I watched this week:</b><br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>OSS 117: Le Caire, Nid d'Espions</i> (Michel Hazanavicius, 2006)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>La Vida Inesperada</i> (Jorge Torregrossa, 2014)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Mogari No Mori</i> (Naomi Kawase, 2007)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>That Awkward Moment</i> (Tom Gormican, 2014)</div>

I'm happy to say that I actually enjoyed all the episodes I watched. (beware <span style="color: red;">spoilers</span>):<br /><br />11. <i>Modern Family</i>: "Australia" (Season 5 Episode 20)<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.usmagazine.com/uploads/assets/articles/70718-modern-family-cast-hits-australia-beach-sofia-vergara-shows-curves-in-monokini-t/1393003259_sofia-vergara-ty-burrell-zoom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.usmagazine.com/uploads/assets/articles/70718-modern-family-cast-hits-australia-beach-sofia-vergara-shows-curves-in-monokini-t/1393003259_sofia-vergara-ty-burrell-zoom.jpg" height="223" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>
<br />The three not-so-modern families were back and it was not a brilliant episode but it was not a terrible one, either. Claire and Jay's work story was uninspired, Cam and Mitchell's was so revealing of their awful personalities, Phil and Gloria's was quite ridiculous but not as much as Manny and Luke's. This show should be called Pettiness and Boobs. So, the best story was the one with Hayley, Alex and Lily (it didn't hurt that the first surfer was really very hot and not just a normal guy playing the part of a hot guy with pitiful results).<br /><br />MVP: Aubrey Anderson-Emmons as Lily. She's only six but she could be the next (or maybe the next one) Aubrey Plaza.<br /><br />10. <i>Bad Teacher</i>: "Pilot" (Season 1 Episode 1)<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>
I fell in love with Ari Graynor when I saw <i>For a Good Time Call</i>, and when I read that she was headlining the <i>Bad Teacher</i> show I knew that at least, I'd watch the pilot. And yes, it was nothing new, in fact it was quite a lot of old stuff but she is so charismatic that I'm going to give the show a chance.<br /><br /><div>
MVP: Ari Graynor, of course.<br /><br />9. <i>Orphan Black</i>: "Governed by Sound Reason and True Religion" (Season 2 Episode 2)<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.nerdist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/DonnieAlison.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.nerdist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/DonnieAlison.jpg" height="226" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>
Not a lot happened in this episode, although it is a huge relief to find out that Mrs. S is not evil... or is she? Cosima and her new lab did not seem very compelling but at least it looks that she is still a little wary of Dr. Leekie (what a name!). I think that if one of the clones is going to be a traitor is obviously going to be Cosima and I'm not going to like her if she is. Alison is still the most interesting clone and (see MVP) Maslany's more nuanced performance. And I just want Helena to join forces with the other clones and be the funny sidekick she can be.<br /><br />MVP: Maslany playing Alison although Maria Doyle Kennedy as Mrs. S is always golden.<br /><br />8. <i>Glee</i>: "Opening Night" (Season 5 Episode 17)<br /><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="http://newimages.bwwstatic.com/upload10/734938/gleeopening2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://newimages.bwwstatic.com/upload10/734938/gleeopening2.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>
Santana is back! My boyfriend was just telling me about rumours that she is being demoted in the next season and I hope it's just gossip because she is the best thing in the show. This was a quite nice episode, even if basically only Rachel was allowed to sing. Sue's fling, while completely weird and seemingly pointless (is this really why she is moving to NYC if she does?) was helped by a wonderful and game Jane Lynch. And there was not a lot more going on, I liked this episode Tina (there is a new one in each of the episodes she appears in, she changes on demand) and even Kurt was somehow tolerable. Not a classic but one of the best episodes this season.<br /><br />MVP: Jane Lynch, for reminding us why she deserved that first season Emmy.<br /><br />7. <i>Parks and Recreation</i>: "Moving Up, Part 1" (Season 6 Episode 21)<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>
This was a great finale but I preferred the second part in Pawnee rather than this one on San Francisco. Leslie met Michelle Obama! Ben and Andy trying to get wifi for Pawnee was really funny, (they could be the new Toledo) especially the end, being solved with the Cones of Dunshire. If that game existed we'd have it by now.<br /><br />MVP: Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope, meeting the FLOTUS and being her awesome self.<br /><br />6. <i>Grey's Anatomy</i>: "Change of Heart" (Season 10 Episode 21)<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>

There's only three episodes left in this season and so far, there hasn't been a fire, a flood or a famine so I'm starting to get worried. In this episode, we learn that Cristina was robbed and that she should have been the Harper Avery recipient. Nevertheless she is more worried with those pesky dying kids. One of the sisters doesn't make it but I'm more involved in the bubble-boy case. His mother does not want to put her kid at risk and Miranda is not very happy about it. Meanwhile, in sitcom territory, Meredith and Derek consider enslaving his sister but she proves useless. And the biggest news of the episode... Jackson and April are pregnant!<br /><br />MVP: I think I'm going to go with Sarah Drew as April Kepner. It is a character I generally dislike but Drew is quite good at humanising her so she doesn't just look like a Jesus-freak.<br /><br />5. <i>Galerías Velvet</i>: "Los Restos del Naufragio" (Season 1 Episode 10)<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>
Hello there, Miguel Ángel... This episode was so tense with the store empty because people are too narrow-minded to buy Raúl de la Riva's designs (which, admittedly, I'm not to fond of, myself). Everyone working in the galleries is getting nervous but Cristina (because she is an angel) saves the day by having her friends place orders for the dresses. Manolito is going away and Rita and Pedro kiss (not because they're happy the kid is leaving). And, what else? Oh, yeah, Luisa may be a murderer... God, I love this show so much. The episode ended with Don Emilio having some kind of attack but I have already seen episode 11 so I'm not too worried.<br /><br />MVP: Asier Etxeandía as Raúl de la Riva. He plays nervous in a really funny way and (as my boyfriend said) his scenes with Aitana Sánchez Gijón are always a highlight.<br /><br />4. <i>Parks and Recreation</i>: "Moving Up, Part 2" (Season 6 Episode 22)<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>
I loved the San Francisco half, but the Unity Concert one was amazing, hitting that funny and emotional spot that the show manages to hit in the best episodes. Of course, I loved that Leslie gets to stay in Pawnee for the next season. <i>Parks and Rec</i> would not be the same thing anywhere but Pawnee. Where else would you find these people? I think one of the best things about this show is that most of the characters are so good in a moral sense that it is refreshing in this age of antiheroes. They love each other so much, they are always willing to help, to sacrifice and in a comedy. It feels really special and I cannot wait for season seven.<br /><br />MVP: Mo Collins as Joan Callamezzo, letting us know what the Joan is.<br /><br />3. <i>Hannibal</i>: "Shiizakana" (Season 2 Episode 9)<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images6.fanpop.com/image/photos/36900000/Hannibal-Episode-2-09-Shiizakana-hannibal-tv-series-36981654-3000-2002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images6.fanpop.com/image/photos/36900000/Hannibal-Episode-2-09-Shiizakana-hannibal-tv-series-36981654-3000-2002.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>
This was a very bloody and very scary episode. The animal-killer was great and really intriguing. I like this Margot character a lot and I loved her scenes with Will. Also, that ending was so great. This show is rapidly becoming one of my favorite shows ever.<br /><br />MVP: Mark O'Brien as the very chilly Randall. Sadly, he's dead but happily, he's dead (he meant to kill Will!)<br /></div>
<div>
2. <i>Game of Thrones</i>: "Breaker of Chains" (Season 4 Episode 3)<br /><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="http://geeklyinc.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Game-of-Thrones-S4E3-Arya.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://geeklyinc.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Game-of-Thrones-S4E3-Arya.jpg" height="164" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>
Who likes Sam? Why is he still on the show? Why did he have two scenes in this episode? I really hate him and Gilly. And I'm not very invested in the storylines north of Winterfell. But that's the only complaint I can have about this show. I'm having a hard time thinking about this episode on its own because I have already seen the next one but I'll try. Arya and the Hound could headline a spin-off and I'd be there every week. The scene with Daario defeating the champion of Meereen was a lot of fun. Littlefinger kills the Fool and Sansa is going towards that crazy aunt of hers. And poor Tyrion is imprisoned although it's impossible that he killed Joffrey. Oh, and I still love Davos very much.<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>
MVP: Emilia Clarke as the titular breaker of chains is very good in this episode.<br /></div>
<div>
1. <i>Mad Men</i>: "A Day's Work" (Season 7 Episode 2)<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Vollkorn; font-size: 15px; line-height: 21.559999465942383px;"><br /></span></div>
This episode was so perfect. Peggy mistakenly assumes that the flowers on her secretary's desk are for her from Ted. This storyline might have been sitcomy in any other TV show, but here, it tells us so much bout about Peggy and about her relationship with Shirley. By the way, Shirley and Dawn calling each other by their own name was too funny. Bert turns out to be a racist and Joan doesn't know what else to do or how to juggle all her duties at the agency. Luckily, her fairy godfather, Jim, tells her that she should go upstairs and be an account woman exclusively. This results in Dawn being the new Joan, and those are some very big shoes to fill. The story I liked best, tough was Don's and Sally's. She uses the funeral of a friend's mother to go shopping in New York and finds out that Don has been fired.<br /><br />MVP: Kiernan Shipka as Sally Draper. The producer or casting director who found an eight-year-old that would grow up to be this accomplished actress can be very proud. Her uncomfortable scene with Lou was amazing as her heart to heart with Don.</div>

This week, most of the films I saw were part of our <a href="http://thewaytothepalace.blogspot.com.es/2014/04/cannes-project-2014.html">Cannes Proje(c)t</a>. And the quality was very, very high. But eventually, I chose a movie outside the project, <i>Alice in Wonderland </i>(Clyde Geromini et al, 1951), as the best movie of the week. I had watched the Disney Classic before and I don't think I could ever get tired of it.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://images6.fanpop.com/image/photos/35900000/Alice-in-Wonderland-1951-random-35957928-1424-1080.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://images6.fanpop.com/image/photos/35900000/Alice-in-Wonderland-1951-random-35957928-1424-1080.jpg" height="302" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It is most likely the funniest film in the Disney Canon, with an absurdist and exaggerated sense of humour that I have to say, is perfectly encaptured in the Spanish dubbing of the film. I am a Nazi when it comes to seeing films in the Original Version but some of the Spanish Disney voices are so ingrained in my brain that it does not make sense watching them in any other way.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Another remarkable thing about the film is its rythm. Once Alice falls down the rabbit hole, it's non-stop crazy. It's impossible to play favorites; if I had to choose the parts I like best I'd go with the door, the dodo, and I would just list every moment in the film in chronological order. I mean, what's not to love? The story about the oysters is so delicious (like the oysters were!) and the scene with the flowers is so funny and original. The caterpillar is one of the most literal scenes from the wonderful novel. The one at the White Rabbit's house is so great with poor Bill. And the Cheshire Cat and the cards and the Queen and the trial and of course, the most iconic scene in the movie, the unbirthday party.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Alice in Wonderland</i> is probably the only Disney film without a lesson to learn at the end, something very basic if you know the novel, that the Tim Burton version got wrong (among so many other things). And that is so cool because our heroine does not need to learn a lesson other than the one her sister is droning on about. I just love Alice as a character so much. She is funny, polite when she needs to be but generally she doesn't give a fuck what the crazy people in Wonderland think of her. I think that in this age of overpraising mediocre films such as <i>Frozen </i>(Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, 2013) for not being medieval in their representation of women, it's a good idea to turn to the classics to see how things were done.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<b>Other films I watched this week:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Topsy-Turvy</i> (Mike Leigh, 2000)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Heremakono</i> (Abderrahmane Sissako, 2003)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Uzak</i> (Nuri Bilge Ceylan, 2002)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>The Return</i> (Andrey Zvyagintsev, 2003)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>The Amazing Spider-Man 2</i> (Marc Webb, 2014)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Capote </i>(Bennett Miller, 2005)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Tiempo de Valientes</i> (Damián Szifrón, 2005)<br />
<i>Tiresia </i>(Bertrand Bonello, 2003)<br />

<br />
12.<i> Glee</i>: Tested (Season 5 Episode 16)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://edgecast.metatube-files.buscafs.com/uploads/videos/image/image_233207_1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://edgecast.metatube-files.buscafs.com/uploads/videos/image/image_233207_1.jpg" height="179" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It turns out that putting the whole focus on New York doesn't solve <i>Glee </i>either. This episode was pretty much terrible. I just can't believe that Kurt and Blaine are still together. They basically hate each other. Artie's storyline was risible at best and prudish at worst. It turns out that the good girl for him is the one that does not want sex right away. Yay, abstinence! And in other abstinence news we have Mercedes, who wants to wait until she's married. In the immortal words of Samantha Jones: "Honey, before you buy the car, you take it for a test drive". I just cannot deal with this show, but I cannot wait to see what other terrible storylines we get.</div>
<br />
MVP: Darren Criss, for keeping the aplomb through all the stupidities they make him do.<br />
<br />
11.<i> The Simpsons</i>: Days of Future Future (Season 25 Episode 17)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://simpsonswiki.com/w/images/b/b7/Days_of_Future_Future_promo_5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://simpsonswiki.com/w/images/b/b7/Days_of_Future_Future_promo_5.jpg" height="179" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
When I was a kid I loved the episodes of the Simpsons dealing with the future, especially the one where Lisa was POTUS. But this episode was simply lackluster. We had seen most of the outcomes such as Bart's kids or Lisa ending up with Milhouse. And even though I think the beginning and the ending for Homer's story was clever, the middle was just filler with technology related jokes that might have been funny in 2005.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
MVP: Ralph, the best cop of the future.</div>
<br />
<br />
10.<i> Scandal</i>: The Price of Free and Fair Election (Season 3 Episode 18)<br />
<i><br /></i>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://d1mxyp5ceukbya.cloudfront.net/images/george-newbern-katie-lowes-guillermo-diaz-scandal-ABC.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://d1mxyp5ceukbya.cloudfront.net/images/george-newbern-katie-lowes-guillermo-diaz-scandal-ABC.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
We had been watching Scandal way too late but we decided to pick up the rythm for the finale. For most of its third season I've been thinking that maybe I don't want to watch Scandal anymore. The second season was a lot of fun and the performances were generally very good. But now everything is nonsense and the actors are starting to phone it in. Mellie screaming "It's my turn" was a relevant low point for humanity. But, when it gets crazy it's still fun, mainly when it involves the two crazy people that are Huck and Quinn or the killing of some character (I wish it had been Kate Burton's but we had to settle for Jack's son in <i>Lost</i>). Right now, I think I might watch the season 4 opener and then decide.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
MVP: Katie Lowes seems bananas enough to go with the poorly written changes they are inflicting upon Quinn.</div>
<i><br /></i>
<i><br /></i>
9.<i> New Girl</i>: Big News (Season 3 Episode 21)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.tvfort.com/files/captures/new-girl-46aed7/Screen-4818760.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.tvfort.com/files/captures/new-girl-46aed7/Screen-4818760.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Jess and Nick are broken up! This felt a little like a filler episode but had some fun things nevertheless, like Jess wacthing Coach watching Winston yawn. I really don't have a lot to say about this episode. It was fine but not too remarkable.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
MVP: Jake Johnson. I think he is the best actor of the bunch, was consistently funny and his conversation with Tran was really good.</div>
<br />
<br />
8.<i> Parks and Recreation</i>: One in 8,000 (Season 6 Episode 20)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://wac.450f.edgecastcdn.net/80450F/screencrush.com/files/2014/04/09_NUP_162959_0876.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://wac.450f.edgecastcdn.net/80450F/screencrush.com/files/2014/04/09_NUP_162959_0876.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In this episode we find out that Leslie is pregnant with triplets! Ben immediately and hilariously worries while her wife is surprisingly chill about it. But she is right, if she can handle Pawnee, triplets will be a piece of cake. Meanwhile Andy struggles to keep the secret of the pregnancy and Ron "helps" Donna see that an ex-boyfriend deserves a second chance. I love both Retta and Jim O'Heir and I am very happy that they are being featured more prominently now that Rashida Jones and Rob Lowe are gone.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
MVP: Amy Poehler killing it at the auction.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
7.<i> Grey's Anatomy</i>: Go It Alone (Season 10 Episode 20)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://cdn2-b.examiner.com/sites/default/files/styles/article_large/hash/76/4a/764ae6a38475c5118bf83ab2667d707f.jpg?itok=88N5zdjW" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://cdn2-b.examiner.com/sites/default/files/styles/article_large/hash/76/4a/764ae6a38475c5118bf83ab2667d707f.jpg?itok=88N5zdjW" height="142" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
First things first, how weird is that picture up there? I mean, where are their (three) legs? I know they are probably sitting like indians but doesn't it seem like they are way deep into the mattress? Anyway, that's not very important (or is it?), what's important is that Callizona has decided to have another baby! (Babies everywhere!) Also April and Jackson are not on solid ground. Even if it felt we had seen this before it felt nice to see that marriage did not wash over their differences and that the silly thing about the swisuit had some reason to exist. But I like April and Jackson together. Meredith is once again the best person in the universe and shows up for the Avery awards where Cristina... loses. What? Oh my dear, is this punishment because Sandra Oh wants to quit the show? Is there any surname cooler than Oh?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
MVP: Sandra Oh, having her heart broken. Not by a man, of course, but by losing a surgery award.</div>
<br />
<br />
6.<i> Orphan Black</i>: Nature Under Constraint and Vexed (Season 2 Episode 1)<br />
<i><br /></i>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWXP6kOjjna53-Mz-klN-Cl8qpxTy5O1uXKK_XSDJcBVWwjA4rva89HUDirGBEIFRdPVOxakw-wuegsxvlcHuOxT6x6KK1qdWqXZVTSU467TbKb3pK47ymBz5vcaQyKMugXVsg2Xqhi14/s1600/orphan-black-nature-under-constraint-and-vexed-alison.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWXP6kOjjna53-Mz-klN-Cl8qpxTy5O1uXKK_XSDJcBVWwjA4rva89HUDirGBEIFRdPVOxakw-wuegsxvlcHuOxT6x6KK1qdWqXZVTSU467TbKb3pK47ymBz5vcaQyKMugXVsg2Xqhi14/s1600/orphan-black-nature-under-constraint-and-vexed-alison.jpg" height="210" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
They're back! I think this was a great season opener, not too much has changed, there's this sense of new mission with the finding of Kira (who is she with, by the way? Was the burnt hand supposed to be a clue?Because I did not get it.) and we have Rachel as the new super-villain, also, I don't think that Mrs. S is going to be bad. Cosima is still a bit boring but Allison is my everything. She is in a musical, of course. And the best news is that Helena is not dead! Nothing can kill the animal in her.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
MVP: Tatiana Maslany for the hand gestures when Sarah is pretending to be Cosima.</div>
<i><br /></i>
5.<i> Galerías Velvet</i>: El Gran Día (Season 1 Episode 9)<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I have already seen the following episode (this happens for writing so late in the week) and I am so hooked to this TV show. Last week, everything turned around the presentation of Raúl's collection. It was a success, everyone loved it and they celebrated all night. Some celebrated too much because Alberto and Cristina had sex out of wedlock! Doña Blanca let her hair down (literally and figuratively) and it was one of the best moments ever.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
MVP: Marta Hazas, whose Clara has to step in when one of the models can't make it and walks the runway like a pro.</div>
<br />
<br />
4.<i> Mad Men</i>: Time Zones (Season 7 Episode 1)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.tele-management.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Inside_Episode_701__Mad_Men__Time_Zones.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.tele-management.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Inside_Episode_701__Mad_Men__Time_Zones.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Another TV show who is thankfully back! The beginning was so awesome with Freddy being so good all of a sudden and then we find out it's Don who's Cyranoing him. I don't like Lou Avery at all but I guess that's the point of the character. Joan and Peggy are still the best, thank you very much. And Don is adrift, somewhere in the air between L.A. and New York cozying up to Neve Campbell (!). God, I missed this show!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
MVP: Jon Hamm makes the best Don when he's hitting rock bottom.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<br />
3.<i> Community</i>: Basic Sandwich (Season 5 Episode 13)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://d1mxyp5ceukbya.cloudfront.net/images/community-season-5-finale-recap-basic-sandwich-shirley-hickey-duncan-nbc.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://d1mxyp5ceukbya.cloudfront.net/images/community-season-5-finale-recap-basic-sandwich-shirley-hickey-duncan-nbc.JPG" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Apparently, a sixth season for <i>Community </i>is basically assured but if this had been the ending, it would have been a terribly good one. It did what the best episodes of the show do which is being extremely funny but also a little sad. And Jeff loves Annie! Also I want use "The sparks may be spelling out the next clue" for any situation in my life.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
MVP: Alison Brie again. She is just the best.</div>
<br />
<br />
2. <i>Game of Thrones</i>: The Lion and the Rose (Season 4 Episode 2)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://cdn.wegotthiscovered.com/wp-content/uploads/Game-of-Thrones38.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://cdn.wegotthiscovered.com/wp-content/uploads/Game-of-Thrones38.jpg" height="212" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Weddings in Westeros, always so quaint. This episode was really spectacular. I know nothing about the books so I was not anticipating that death at all and it is so interesting that the rest of the characters aren't either, so you are feeling with them. "Is this for real? Who did this?" So, so good. I also liked the part at Dragonstone, where Melisandre and Shireen Baratheon have a good conversation. And before everything went awry it was very nice to see Tyrion and Jamie being brotherly to each other.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
MVP: Peter Dinklage and Jack Gleeson who made the wedding so scene so excrutiatingly uncomfortable.</div>
<br />
<br />
1. <i>Hannibal</i>: Su-zakana (Season 2 Episode 8)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://hannibaltvshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/su-zakana-promo4-1024x681.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://hannibaltvshow.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/su-zakana-promo4-1024x681.jpg" height="212" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Can we have Vincenzo Natali direct every episode of everything? His hand could be better seen in scenes such as the sexual encounter between Hannibal and Alana but the whole episode was touched by a like mind. This is a very happy finding indeed. I love how the show mixes beauty and horror. It is probably the most visually arresting show in the history of TV. And the scares... I nearly died when the bird flew out of the chest. Jeremy Davies was really good and the final confrontation between Will and the real killer of the episode was amazing.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
MVP: Hugh Dancy, fresh out of the loony bin and bad-ass as ever. I loved how he said: "I don't want to kill you, Dr. Lecter, now that I finally find you interesting".</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
And that's it for the week! Remember: reading is boring, TV rules!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">

<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
If the Oscars are the Super Bowl, Cannes announcements are Christmas Morning, if Santa Claus was a sadist and would only let you hear about the presents that you will receive throughout the year. And also, some of those presents are going to suck. But in general, the Cannes film festival is the best thing ever. It celebrates the best in film and most of my favorite directors choose the Croisette to showcase their latest films.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Any film festival is more entertaining the more you know about the directors showing their work. You can get excited for a specific film, you can laugh if the reviews are bad for some other. So, every year (this is the third) my boyfriend and I do the Cannes Proje(c)t. The (c) is between parentheses to help with the pronunciation, by the way. The Cannes Proje(c)t consists in the following: Once the official competition lineup is announced, we choose a previous film by each one of the directors selected. We watch them before the festival begins to get an idea of the different directors in competition, to remember films we wanted to revisit and many times, in my case, to fill out shame holes in my watchlist. After watching them we rank them in a Letterboxd list because of course. So, without further ado here are the films we have chosen to see before the festival.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Olivier Assayas: Irma Vep (1996)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Bertrand Bonello: Tiresia (2003)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Nuri Bilge Ceylan: Distant (2002)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
David Cronenberg: Naked Lunch (1992)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Jean Pierre and Luc Dardenne: Rosetta (1999)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Xavier Dolan: Laurence Anyways (2012) [This is the only film I had watched before this project]</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Atom Egoyan: Exotica (1994)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Jean-Luc Godard: Le Mépris (1963)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Michel Hazanavicius: OSS 117: Le Caire, nid d'espions (2006)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Tommy Lee Jones: The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Naomi Kawase: The Mourning Forest (2007)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Mike Leigh: Topsy-Turvy (2000)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Ken Loach: Kes (1970)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Bennett Miller: Capote (2005)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Alice Rohrwacher: Corpo Celeste (2011)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Abderrahmane Sissako: Heremakono (2003)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Damián Szifrón: Tiempo de Valientes (2005)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Andrey Zvyagintsev: The Return (2003)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
We are about half-way through the project and so far, this year is having a tremendous quality. Let's see if it holds up...</div>

I had intented to write a little bit about every film I watch in this blog but it gets daunting when I've had a good week like the past one. So, instead, I decided to focus on one movie each week. The best one, ideally.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And even though this week I've seen a lot of amazing five-star films, there was really no contest. The best movie of the week is:</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i>A Passage to India</i> (David Lean, 1984)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpJIJC2gMyxxKuTPGtXlCWwDr4Qc-kQe76eS7oTJvoRjIiyLkrTpnKMY1KopO2RKHnDk789F4WpK6FUj1yF6SbfA6-EtZHH8TrSDpsQOs-tGNNC9CVibZxvTvf8P6B14NEVSAG5ncxzzY/s1600/A+Passage+to+India+%25281984.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpJIJC2gMyxxKuTPGtXlCWwDr4Qc-kQe76eS7oTJvoRjIiyLkrTpnKMY1KopO2RKHnDk789F4WpK6FUj1yF6SbfA6-EtZHH8TrSDpsQOs-tGNNC9CVibZxvTvf8P6B14NEVSAG5ncxzzY/s1600/A+Passage+to+India+%25281984.png" height="225" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
For all good things that posmodernity has given us, there is something to be said about neo-classicism in contemporary film. Its peak is most likely Lean's <i>A Passage to India</i>, but can also be appreciated in Minghella's <i>The English Patient</i> (1996) or <i>Cold Mountain</i> (2003).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This is not to say that they are old-fashioned movies or out of date. They are, especially <i>A Passage to India</i>, thoroughly modern as the best classic movies were in their time. The movie has a classical narrative pulse but the story it tells us is contemporary even though it is set in the past. I'm sure it has been read through the prism of post-colonialism and post-feminism and it is a natural thing, because when a text is as rich as this one, every angle is worthwhile.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The supporting cast is extremely good, Peggy Ashcroft's Oscar is possibly one of the most deserved, but this is Judy Davis' show. Adela is a smart and complex character on paper but Davis layers it so thoughtfully that it is impossible not to be mesmerized by her.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
David Lean is one director in an extinct breed. His command of the action, of the shots filled with people, of the shots filled only with a face, is astonishing and has provided us with one of the best movies I have ever seen.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<b>Other films I saw this week:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Anna Christie (Clarence Brown, 1930)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Shadow of a Doubt (Alfred Hitchcock, 1943)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Shirley Valentine (Lewis Gilbert, 1989)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The Remains of the Day (James Ivory, 1993)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Min and Bill (George W. Hill, 1930)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
The Letter (William Wyler, 1940)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Face to Face (Ingmar Bergman, 1976)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Theodora Goes Wild (Richard Boleslawski, 1936)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I'll Cry Tomorrow (Daniel Mann, 1955)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Le Mépris (Jean-Luc Godard, 1963)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Kes (Ken Loach, 1970)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Naked Lunch (David Cronenberg, 1992)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Vacas (Julio Medem, 1992)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Exotica (Atom Egoyan, 1994)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Irma Vep (Olivier Assayas, 1996)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Away From Her (Sarah Polley, 2007) [Rewatch]</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Rosetta (Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, 1999)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
In general, it has been a ridiculously good week in terms of quality, heavy on Best Actress Nominees on the beginning and with the Cannes Proje(c)t 2014 (about which I intend to blog about) later in the week.</div>
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05551323010683580243noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7280550458540256932.post-16500352004718772742014-04-14T14:51:00.000+02:002014-04-14T14:51:34.631+02:00My week in TV!<div style="text-align: justify;">
First, a disclaimer, I am Spanish, so I see every TV show the day after it airs in the States. That's why last Sunday's episodes count as last week. To talk about TV I decided to rank the episodes in the week. So, here it goes, from worst to best. Obviously, <span style="color: red; font-size: large;">Spoilers</span> ahead.<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
8. <i>The Simpsons</i>: "Luca$" (Season 25 Episode 17)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0laF_jn63QvRiH6-H4FvpAVGa5HDK7WYsbbRIB9r5K8GC54fSWU68PoMqlMoDdl7eDtSzoIPKa2n7S4KMsWghlm725n0VuA8aCvMRvFFxp-HtGCNt9nzi1wBPwrowo0jRjg8RuMGyVPM/s1600/vlcsnap-2014-04-08-21h47m26s199.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0laF_jn63QvRiH6-H4FvpAVGa5HDK7WYsbbRIB9r5K8GC54fSWU68PoMqlMoDdl7eDtSzoIPKa2n7S4KMsWghlm725n0VuA8aCvMRvFFxp-HtGCNt9nzi1wBPwrowo0jRjg8RuMGyVPM/s1600/vlcsnap-2014-04-08-21h47m26s199.png" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
A million years later, I'm still watching The Simpsons. It feels like comfort/junk food. The episodes have been generally weak this season but every one has a few funny moments. Nevertheless, they tend to have this gimmick that I hate in which all the stories in the episode (two usually) come together for the resolution.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
From this one I remember Lisa's story about the competitive eater kid but it was not very remarkable.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
MVP: The squirrel?</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div>
7. <i>Glee</i>: "Bash" (Season 5 Episode 15)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://cdn.popdust.com//wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Glee-Bash-Episode-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://cdn.popdust.com//wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Glee-Bash-Episode-1.jpg" height="214" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I have a weird relationship with <i>Glee</i>. I cannot wait to see the latest episode when it's aired but I very rarely like them. This was a very special episode in a very bad way. Kurt gets bashed and we learn a lesson about homophobia. I'm not saying TV should not deal with social issues but it should not be done in this crass and clumsy way. Artie has a couple of lines where he is literally reciting statistics. Riveting television, for sure. To find a silver lining, I really liked Lea Michele in this episode, she shines when Rachel is mean and petty. And I think that the Mercedes/Sam thing is ridiculous. Again, it would be interesting to see how a show deals with an interracial couple and what that means today but not if it means that what we get is this. And also, where the hell is Santana?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
MVP: Lea Michele as Rachel.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
6. <i>Community</i>: "Basic Story (1)" (Season 5 Episode 12)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://screencrave.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Community.S05E12.HDTV_.x264-LOL.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://screencrave.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Community.S05E12.HDTV_.x264-LOL.jpeg" height="196" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
This season is ending! Time flies when you have fun and this season has been a lot of fun. I don't like to inflate Dan Harmon's ego but he really knows how to handle these characters. I don't care much for Jitta/Breff but the ending with the Dean, Abed and Annie so excited about a treasure was golden. What is going to happen to this show? Is it going to have a sixth season? As of now, I'd say it deserves it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
MVP: Alison Brie as Annie, like always.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
5.<i> Parks and Recreation</i>: "Flu Season 2" (Season 6 Episode 19)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://img2.timeinc.net/ew/i/2014/04/04/Parks-and-Rec-FluSeason2-Full.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://img2.timeinc.net/ew/i/2014/04/04/Parks-and-Rec-FluSeason2-Full.jpg" height="198" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<i>Parks and Recreation</i> is going to have a 7th season, for sure. I was a little skeptical about it but since the news of Leslie's pregnancy I feel optimistic about it. I thought the three stories in this episode were very good and allowed everyone to shine. April being obnoxious and Donna laughing because of it is the stuff that dreams are made of.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
MVP: Adam Scott as Ben, who plays drunk hilariously.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
4. <i>Grey's Anatomy</i>: "I'm Winning" (Season 10 Episode 19)</div>
<div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<i>Grey's Anatomy</i> is possibly one of the most maligned shows on TV right now, but the truth is that the show has kept its quality for ten years and that is not easy. Sure, the show has changed but it is for the good. We are at a place right now where all the couples are consolidated. Even if they have problems, it is never in the shape of a conventional love triangle (even if <i>Grey's Anatomy</i> also mastered those). And thanks to that, this season has had one of the most interesting storylines of the year. Meredith and Cristina falling out due to their different approaches to their careers. And just when we thought they had put that behind them, Meredith admits that she's jealous of her friend. Really, there are very few better characters than Meredith Grey and it is a shame that Ellen Pompeo has never been nominated for an Emmy. On top of everything we get the sweetest Callizona scene. Great episode.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
MVP: Sara Ramirez as Callie, on that machine that told her she was depressed.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
3. <i>Galerías Velvet</i>: "La decisión de Alberto" (Season 1 Episode 8)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/t1.0-9/s403x403/998445_538607136258744_1172637745_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/t1.0-9/s403x403/998445_538607136258744_1172637745_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<i>Galerías Velvet</i> is a Spanish show that tries to mix Mad Men with Grey's Anatomy while keeping some of our idiosincrasies (there are two characters yelling all the time, that's Spain for you) and I am surprised to say that I enjoy it a lot. The lead actress (Paula Echevarría, in the picture) is not exactly great but she has her moments but, in general, the cast is great, mixing older actors with younger ones. The story is very soapy but very entertaining. And as a bonus, Miguel Ángel Silvestre is shirtless sometimes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
MVP: Miriam Giovanelli as Patricia, standing up for herself and facing the consequences.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
2. <i>Game of Thrones</i>: "Two Swords" (Season 4 Episode 1)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140407194747/gameofthrones/images/f/fe/Drogon_snarls_at_his_mom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140407194747/gameofthrones/images/f/fe/Drogon_snarls_at_his_mom.jpg" height="197" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
We're back in Westeros! This is the first <i>Game of Thrones</i> episode that I've watched when it aired. I binged the first three seasons after the Red Wedding happened and everything. And it's so good to see that the quality is still top-notch. I'm going to watch the second episode in a couple of hours and I am dying! Regarding the picture I fear for Daenerys. She is trusting too much her power over the dragons and over the slaves. I hope she's not setting herself for betrayal (I have not read the books and I like to pretend they don't exist, by the way). I loved to see Brienne, and Tywin and Olenna... As my boyfriend said, this is the show that has the best handle on its ensemble. Everyone gets their scenes and if you miss someone it's always for a reason.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
MVP: Maisie Williams as Arya. That last scene was so cool and so scary at the same time.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
1. <i>Hannibal</i>: "Yakimono" (Season 2 Episode 7)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqMBx3xMKxk6ejDW7A04fYax3qTqAV2rkfTB0i9h6PMfLGAlw40evlDqWMku8UJ21C9t2-h7b-x62UFzORUkieLbR0x7MVGH59AXcQBCoq7lVcNJXnPvFeYdV30TWaadjhRV0pVUMuI2o/s1600/vlcsnap-2014-04-12-12h28m39s10.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqMBx3xMKxk6ejDW7A04fYax3qTqAV2rkfTB0i9h6PMfLGAlw40evlDqWMku8UJ21C9t2-h7b-x62UFzORUkieLbR0x7MVGH59AXcQBCoq7lVcNJXnPvFeYdV30TWaadjhRV0pVUMuI2o/s1600/vlcsnap-2014-04-12-12h28m39s10.png" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
And the best episode of the week award goes to... Hannibal! Seriously, how good is this show? Will is released from the hospital/jail, Chilton is accused of being the reaper and Hannibal and I just want to slap Alana. Madds Mikelsen is hot, but don't be blind, girl! Plus, Hugh Dancy is hotter. I don't think Chilton is dead, as I've read some places. The bullet goes in his cheek and maybe that's not lethal? Not sure, but I hope he's not dead, I like the character.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
MVP: Anna Chlumsky as Miriam Lass.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
And that's it! Remember, reading is boring, TV rules!</div>

And we're off!</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<i>Happy Endings</i> starts with an apparently happy ending: a wedding. But before Alex (Elisha Cuthbert) and Dave (Zachary Knighton) can say their I do's, a roller skater bursts in the church and convinces the bride to run away.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgm6rqeotgbh12IR5Kz3zQMGm2CPTJJ5uU4oRste4pJs4XILyDD93Onv7FSGtI8comRYDaf726Z1OH2KHFiEg_N5zGCv3r7iq2z0lMKLUOOh-0W5Y9DMDvOcOMwJA_Zrk0d5BouYjcV_U/s1600/vlcsnap-2014-04-13-15h59m20s249.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgm6rqeotgbh12IR5Kz3zQMGm2CPTJJ5uU4oRste4pJs4XILyDD93Onv7FSGtI8comRYDaf726Z1OH2KHFiEg_N5zGCv3r7iq2z0lMKLUOOh-0W5Y9DMDvOcOMwJA_Zrk0d5BouYjcV_U/s1600/vlcsnap-2014-04-13-15h59m20s249.png" height="225" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Now, I have never seen Julia Robert's <i>Runaway Bride</i> (Garry Marshall, 1999) but the connection seems pretty obvious. I would not mind seeing it at all since I adore Julia Roberts.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://endtimepilgrim.org/runaway28.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://endtimepilgrim.org/runaway28.jpg" height="225" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After this, Dave is pretending not to be devastated and listing his activities he says: "Taking online yoga, meeting great people, they're calling me Bodhi which is awesome because of <i>Point Break</i>, been watching that a lot. Totally holds up". I haven't seen <i>Point Break</i> (Kathryn Bigelow, 1991) either (I swear I have seen some movies) but in Spain they named it literally "They call him Bodhi". Nevertheless, Julia and Keanu, it doesn't get a lot more 90s than that... (and we can add some Winona for good measure)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://24.media.tumblr.com/8b665b2f34e7b5c7b8713f393c058eb6/tumblr_mnzg5fCPc51so3e0fo1_500.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://24.media.tumblr.com/8b665b2f34e7b5c7b8713f393c058eb6/tumblr_mnzg5fCPc51so3e0fo1_500.jpg" height="260" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
And what happened to Lori Petty, right? Well, to give Dave an answer, her last credit in Imdb is from 2010, but she has a movie in pre-production AND she is the highest cast member according to Starmeter, so... Not great, Dave, not great.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Jane (Eliza Coupe) says that Dave is giving off a Howard Hughes vibe and I would like to take the opportunity to say that Leonardo DiCaprio (who played Hughes in <i>The Aviator</i> (Martin Scorsese, 2004)) hasn't yet deserved an Oscar so people can start chillaxing about that...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Alex eventually comes back, sporting "white-trash tourists braids" which earns her a comparison with Predator from Dave but it might be telling that the roller-skater was named Bo and this hair was worn by Bo Derek in 10 (Blake Edwards, 1979). And telling of what, you may ask. Well, of nothing, actually but I thought it was a nice connection.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVKz7tv7iiTHxdCNQGeTuGNNn9EdSWNLbWxMVXbBATfMxjp1PTMAVQa6_KWll8_sOSRdFQsdmSZ1ZnKkRhw6bxyGp-1bYnWvKY5x1Ll0uQNhVt4qvKba9QPnvNUEgbecsjY_xPQ7R8cEk/s1600/vlcsnap-2014-04-13-16h25m31s54.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVKz7tv7iiTHxdCNQGeTuGNNn9EdSWNLbWxMVXbBATfMxjp1PTMAVQa6_KWll8_sOSRdFQsdmSZ1ZnKkRhw6bxyGp-1bYnWvKY5x1Ll0uQNhVt4qvKba9QPnvNUEgbecsjY_xPQ7R8cEk/s1600/vlcsnap-2014-04-13-16h25m31s54.png" height="225" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The next reference is not from film, not at leat until 2015 because it is about the tv show <i>Entourage</i>. Alex compliments the hat of Dave's rebound girl, Jackie, and she says it's signed by Turtle from the show. He was played (and will be, in the film) by Jerry Ferrara. I just love Dave's reaction asking Alex: "What are you wearing that's so great?".</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
(Not related to any movie, but afterwards, we have Penny's (the wonderful Casey Wilson) first amahzing!)</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
During Penny's "26th" birthday party, Max (Adam Pally) is convinced that her date, Todd is actually gay so he comments how jewish men are "his jam, like that Shia LaBeouf" to which Todd responds that he prefers Megan Fox, which is simply ridiculous, even if you are a straight man. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEickL95g5ENiuNh4vbyoXeL8v6gTvDn1Ru4FNX54ZlD6W9BPJZKbBVyssJQNkSHPQzgm5wmxNiGniAC4q12xd0DwAXjkNbKT6oy0JDqC1kWjlAsgRlErn4T2HGZMLTmpUzMsvY3v2EQH5U/s1600/shia+labeouf+pubes.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEickL95g5ENiuNh4vbyoXeL8v6gTvDn1Ru4FNX54ZlD6W9BPJZKbBVyssJQNkSHPQzgm5wmxNiGniAC4q12xd0DwAXjkNbKT6oy0JDqC1kWjlAsgRlErn4T2HGZMLTmpUzMsvY3v2EQH5U/s1600/shia+labeouf+pubes.jpg" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In the end Max gives Todd his number and suggests they can rent a movie together, maybe <i>Kate and Leopold</i>...</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Then, we have to believe that Jackie, who was born supposedly in 1992 doesn't know who Michael Jordan is. What was she doing in 1996, when this happened?</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://media.theiapolis.com/b000000/d8/hLC/iOXK/k8/l1B5/s6/t3/wSG/y04/bugs-bunny-and-michael-jordan-in-space-jam.jpg?cdn=1397400717" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://media.theiapolis.com/b000000/d8/hLC/iOXK/k8/l1B5/s6/t3/wSG/y04/bugs-bunny-and-michael-jordan-in-space-jam.jpg?cdn=1397400717" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
My own sister was born in 1994 and she was obsessed with Lola Bunny, so I don't buy it, people!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
And, the last film references of the episode come at the very end when Max asks if he's really chubby. While Brad (Damon Wayans Jr.) thinks he looks like a young Kathy Bates, Jane says it's as if Paul Rudd gave up.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
And that's it! I'll try to be back next week with the second episode. Don't let young Kathy Bates kill you!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The show, now unjustly cancelled started exactly three years ago today.<br />
<br />
I'm really looking forward to dissecting every reference. It's going to be amahzing!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05551323010683580243noreply@blogger.com0
